tech 4's the same is all years?

is the engine in a 84 fiero the same as the one in a 87, can they be swapped as lond as i just take off the distributer and put the 87's ignition mod. have they changed any sensors or other things?

and does anyone know if its easy to take out the engine in a fiero (tech4) as i see it, all i have are the 4 bolts holding the cradle, fuel lines, wires, strut bolts, and the clutch cable, then just lift the car up, right?

The 87 has a roller cam (since 86) and the DIS means a computer and harness swap to eliminate the distributor. As far as bolting it in, I see nothing mechanically different.

74-79 Ramcharger or 100, slant or no motor - not interested in v8 - Overdrive 4 is a big plus, NO hopeless rust buckets!!!

Why is it I see so many "Proud to be an American" bumper stickers on the backs of cars made in Japan or Korea??????

Ragtop is right. There are some small issues, like the v-belt drive on the 84, vs the serpentine belt of the 87.

The 87 has a bigger and better TBI, that breathes more air. But the fuel lines and the throttle cable are different. Try to get these when you get the 87 motor, as well as the wiring harness and computer.

Ah, serpentine drive. I thought that was 88 only. Still, it fits.

Thanks FIEROWISEGUY.

Re: tech 4's the same is all years?

quick question, if i wer replacing a head gasket on a 1987 tech 4. when i go on parts americas website and look up 87 fiero why does it list the parts for and l4 instead of 4 tech.
is the tech 4 the same as the l4 in this sense.

Re: tech 4's the same is all years?

some places use L4 and I4. usually L4 means longitudinal, the way motors are mounted for RWD cars. however our motors are mounted transversely, so maybe they didn't really look when they entered it in there...
