'04 stereo removal

Hello,
I'm a new forum member/Durango owner and have a quick question. Has anyone here put an aftermarket head unit in an '04? If so, what was the proceedure for removing the factory unit? Does that wood grain panel just pop out or what? Any other gotcha's involved?
Thanks in advance for any info that anyone can provide!
Scott....

Thumbs up '04 stereo removal

Not sure about how it comes off but I installed an new radio/mp3 player in my Durango and when I bought it from Cructfield (http://www.crutchfield.com) it came with all the instructions for the Durango and even the exact wiring harness so it was as simple as plugging it in and connecting a few clearly marked wires.

I checked the site and they don't give this stuff away unless you buy a radio so if you havent bought it yet I would try there maybe.

Good luck.

Re: '04 stereo removal

if you look inside the bottom pocket...there are 2 screws on the top(you will need a 1/4" ratchet and small socket) just loosen these a bit and pull from the bottom by the pocket, it will release and you can pull it out and turn it to the side so you dont have to unplug the cigerette lighter wires and heater control wires.....at this point its pretty self explanitory there are a couple screws on each side of the radio unbolt them, unplug the factory radio put in the wire harness, mounting kit, antenna adapter, put it back together and you should be good to go.......hope these instructions are understandable!

Recently installed Alpine head unit and 4 door speakers which I bought from Crutchfield. I added an Infinity Basslink x subwoofer from Etronics in the small storage area behind the third row seating. The sound is spectacular! It easily rivals the 8 speaker Inifinity factory system.
