How reliable are the mid-late 90's Intrepids?

particle a 97? any major recalls?
Looking at a 97 es 3.5 with only 53k and they want 3k for it

I own a 97 myself. I'v personally had no problems yet and i'm the second owner. The car has 105k miles on it (all highway). The only major problem that these cars seem to have is wearing our halfshafts. I know two people with 95's one being a chrysler concorde that have had to replace their halfshafts and both of their cars were around 120k miles. I think they're a dependable car for the most part.

I had a '96 and tranny went at 130k. Also water pump went at about 90k. Went through 6 water pumps in a year. They were all warranted as well as the work. Must have been a bad line of pumps. I loved the car, but needed a truck. Anyways '94-97 are notorious for water pumps, fuel rails, and trannies. Don't buy a 3.3l they are junk, get the 3.5l.

Having owned a 95' myself, I can say they are pretty reliable. The tranny needs to be taken care of, i.e. Fluid changes on time, correct fluid, etc or else it will fail on you. Inner tie rod bushings are a known problem, I had that come on me as well. Fuel rails on earlier models have a recall out. the 3.5L will require a new timing belt at or around 105K. Mine lasted to 117K. Intake manifold gasket will commonly fail for a nice vacuum leak.

Even though the 3.3L is a lot slower, it's a more reliable engine. OHV, Timing Chain. Only problem with it is the 161HP (or 153HP in 1993)

My 3.5L devolped rod knock at 122K when i sold it.
