Question 'Change Engine Oil' light?

I had the 'Change Engine Oil' light flash while driving into work this morning.

Once I do change the oil, is there anything special I need to do to get the message to stop coming on?

I searched the forum before this post and didn't see it this discussed. At least not with the Silverado. Read on another board that there was a procedure, but don't know if the same steps apply here.

Sorry to be a pest on the boards (I really know squat about Chevys - I've only owned mostly Dodge vehicles).

Thanks again!

Re: 'Change Engine Oil' light?

yea....i believe u just turn the key half way so the power comes on , not start up, just electric. Then you push the gas pedal to the floor 3 times in a row. Turn on the key back and when u start it up again it should be fine. This is just off the top of my head, but i think its correct. It tells you how to do it in the owners manual. Please someone correct me if i gave this guy false info.

Re: 'Change Engine Oil' light?

Thats pretty much it. I cant remember if you just turn the key on once or twice, with out starting. that puts the computer into program mode. then gas to the floor 3 times and wait. The display will flash a few times signaling it has been reset then go back to the battery display and your done. like Nigel said, try turning the key once and if it doesnt do the flash thing then turn the key twice then hit the gas sequence. If it flashes, your done.

Re: 'Change Engine Oil' light?

Exactly how it reads in the manual. Your light should reset!

Re: 'Change Engine Oil' light?

On more than one occasion I've had to repeat the process to reset it. I've had to do that with an intrigue as well so keep it in mind.

If you ever add mods such as an Cold air intake, you need to do this also as it resets the computer and will adjust to the new mods.

Reset what? Surely you dont mean reset the Oil Change light for an intake or MAF sensor?
