Re: i hear a clicking while driving

actually let me rephrase my original post... it is more of a knock type than a click

Re: i hear a clicking while driving

If you have a knock sound, that sounds like motor mounts. The easiest way to tell if the motor mounts are bad, raise your hood and put the car in gear. Have a friend or someone else watch as you have your foot on the brake while the transmission in gear, and lightly accelerate. If the engine moves up more than half an inch, you have bad motor mounts and need to be replaced before they fail and cause the motor to fall out on you in the middle of the road. The other option is the transmission mount.

Ok, if it's more of a knocking, i have to ask: Does it seem more pronounced when you hit a bump, or cornering? If so i'm guessing Inner tie rod ends, or the rack bushings, which are notorious for these cars. When i had my 95 i could push the passenger side wheel 2 inches in every direction. Cost me $600 to repair, and it's dangerous not too fix it, because if it breaks all the way your front wheels will go from this | | To this / \

Other possibilites do include the motor mounts, but they wouldn't be that loud at cruising speeds. You'd notice those more coming from a stop or when changing gears. I busted the trans mount on mine, and it actully would slam into reverse because the trans would jump up and hit the subframe -- not a good thing.

Either way, it sounds like a potentially hazardous situation, i'd recommend getting it looked at soon. I wish i could tell you more, but sounds are hard to diagnose over the internet.

Possibly from the heater/ac system?

I have a 94 that makes some wierd noises coming from the heat/ac systems. They are sounds that lasts for like 3-5 seconds when you change anything that has to do with the blower speed or what mode it is in.

I was told from someone at the dealer that as long as the heat/ac still works as it should, no reason to tear into it to figure it out, something to do with the doors that decide where the air goes, defrost, panel, floor. But it does drive me nuts sometimes.

Re: i hear a clicking while driving

perhaps, but I haven't visited under the dash, and as long as it is working I'll ignore the clicking with the heater mode changes. I hate vacuum motors, give me simple cable linkages like in the oden days.
