2K1 I30 Bose Stereo Questions...

Today i heard the stereo in my I30 for the first time! (got it 6 weeks ago, hasnt had a working stereo since then...long story) Does anyone have the exact specs for this system? What size is the subwoofer and how many watts? I'm not sure if this is feasible, but what are ya'll's thoughts about putting in a higher output sub of the same size in its place and obviously getting more power to it (assuming the stock isn't so powerful)? Would it be a problem not having it in an enclosure (the sub is just mounted to the rear deck)? Im skeptical about doing a full blown system cuz i've already had an entire one stolen out of my former car. Any hellp would be appreciated

Anybody have an answer for this yet, I'm wondering the same thing...but for all the speakers, not just the sub. They are sounding like the previous owner trashed them a little.

Installing an aftermarktet AMP and Sub in the rear deck location won't really do much good in terms of sound because there is no enclosure. (subs need small areas to "push" the air around). They do sell open air subwoofers out there for this very purpose, however they are very hard to come by, and very expensive.

In Terms of the speakers, you can't just go replace the bose speakers with any aftermarket speaker. BOSE runs on a different impedence (ohms) than every other stereo on the market. If you replace the speakers, they probably won't sound very good and or blow after a while.

what most people do in this case is fully replace the BOSE system with an aftermarket systems (Remove the head unit, speakers, and external amps) and replace with aftermarket head unit speakers and amps.

BTW, I just saw how old the original post was. Damn newb. lol

Noob to this forum, yes. Noob to forums, no. Thanks for the reply, I actually found a thread about it a few times after my post referring to having to gut the whole thing. I don't have any immediate needs for replacing my speakers for now, so I'll wait until they blow or I have money.

I've had other cars with the BOSE and noticed the amp is actually integrated with each speaker over very close to it. Which is why you'd have to replace the entire system.

I had my system stolen a few years ago from my CRX Si. The second system stayed until I sold it....(wish I had the car now). But what I learned is, don't advertise your system near your house or on a route you take often. Keep the volume low. On the open road is the best way to really enjoy it.

Re: 2K1 I30 Bose Stereo Questions...

K, this post might help some people that have been having problems with their stock sub.

Mine wasn't working at all for the 2 weeks until now that I had the car. The sub put out no sound at all. The solution: There is a wire and two connectors near the sub. In the middle of the wire is a foam-wrapped circuit board. Disconnect the wire, cut the foam off. If you look at the circuit boards solder-joints, some of them may have a lightish right around them. This a crack in the solder that I learned from my Acura Legends Ignition. All I did, just to be safe, was heat up every joint on the board and add a little bit of solder. After you're done, wrap the board with electrical tape and plug the connector back in, worked great. Very decent for a stock sub, I was impressed. Hope maybe this helps someone.
