Im running a stock 97 Eclipse GST, and I was wondering if getting a DSM MAF Translator would be a good idea for one of the first mods. I am including a link to the place where i would purchase this kit. I was wondering if someone could please tell me the pros and cons of this swap. I am also wondering if what they are saying there is true, any info on this subject would be helpful, thanks.
Here is the kit.

Re: How much does it help?
MAF translator only does three things: allows the use of a larger MAF for people who need it (make a lot of power), along with people who need a blowthrough setup and vent their BOV's, and is a rough tuning device.. more like compensation instead of tuning. S-AFC is better.

Re: How much does it help?
I think for a 1g it makes sense to run a MAFT early on, since the 1g MAS sucks. Even on a small turbo like a 16g it can be troublesome. The 2g MAS is very good though, and reads enough airflow for about 500 crank HP. I would avoid touching it until you have to. But there is a lot to gain from reduced intake restriction, and even on a t28/16g I have seen some great gains from it. Just today someone posted with a T28 picking up 28 whp. Its important on small turbos, I can explain if anyone wants me to.
Its a great mod, but you need a datalogger and a good idea of how to tune these cars. That comes with time and experience. So start researching now while you are going trhough the more basic mods. Then when the car is ready, hopefully you will be ready too
