Changed Alternator/Battery Now No Start

Have a 96 Sunfire. Changed the battery and alternator, now the car won't start. The theft system light is on.
1)Tried turning the key to on position for 10 minutes or so
2) Unhooked the battery for about 30 minutes
None of these worked. Then I repeated and the car started right up. Let it run for 10 minutes or so; the ABS, seatbelt, Theft, Airbag, brake lights were showing on panet. Did several starts and restarts over the next hour or so; started every time and finally all the lights on panel stopped displaying. THOUGHT everything was a-okay. Let the car sit for about 1-1/2 hours; now it won't start at all. Tried repeating the above procedure, but getting nothing. Can anyone help me?

make sure all your grounds are good and clean, as well as the battery cables.
