Suspension recommendations needed
hey, how ya'll doin?
I got a '99 GMC Z-71, short box, step side. The suspension seems awful soft on the truck when i have it loaded. Now i assume a softer suspension goes into the short wheel base trucks from factory to compensate for the rougher ride but i would like to hear from you what my options are here...recomendations and warnings are all welcome. I don't regularly haul a load with the truck, mostly i'm travelling with it. I do some minor 4wheelin but not enough to do any damage to the truck. I carry a 4 wheeler once in a while, the odd load of hard wood fire wood and eventually i'm thinkin of getting a travel trailer for the truck to haul to the NASCAR races. I'm leaning towards getting an air shock system that i can adjust due to load. i'm not sure if i would be better off getting a system with a compressor mounted in the truck or not with the rarity of actually having the truck loaded. Please let me know of any experiences you've had or heard of with an air shock system or any other system, it's all appreciated. |

Re: Suspension recommendations needed
You can add an add-a-leaf which will raise the rearend anywhere from 1.5 to 2 ". Your load carrying capacity will increase a lot. The truck will ride a little more stiff but you wont be bright lighting everyone at night with your dims on.
I would choose the rancho add-a-leaf. It is a full length spring and installs fairly easy. |

Re: Suspension recommendations needed
I've got the same issue on my 98 SL
My rear is saggining...Actually, it looks as if my front susp was raise but it's probably just due to the way it's sitting..I'm going to try the leaf add-on. |

Re: Suspension recommendations needed
I have worked with both of the Leaf spring kits and the air bags. I personaly have seen better results with the air bag systems, and as far as whether to put a compressor in or not? Thats up to you but they are very nice to use and for the extra money they are worth it. My personal prefrence is the firestone air bags I have seen great results. But hey thats my 2 cents. Good luck.
