91passat still giving break problems

I recently did the following on my 91 passat 16 v: I just finished replacing the emission/ exhaust from the front down pipe to the muffler(including the oxygen sensor and brackets) I replaced the air filter, the fuel filter, the front brakes, the back brake pads and back rotors. After reading the forum I fixed the idle problem by putting the lose hoses back on the vacuum, which was affecting my brakes as well. So can anyone explain why I 'm still having break problems. The breaks are stiffing up and are not completely responsive. And to top things off, I now hear a clicking noise every so often on the driver side. I know that my car has ABS breaks, but the light is not on. Does anyone have any suggestions?
