Question Catalytic Converter on HF

Hello!

Does anyone know if the catalytic converter (91 CRX HF) is easier to access from the engine bay or from under the car? The reason why I'm asking is that I think I need to tighten the heatshield bolts (as they are beginning to rattle) during driving. It's IRRITATING!!!

I read somewhere in this forum that it's better to use hose clamps and tighten around the cat. Anybody have any experience on this? Does this work well? (being that the HF uses a different cat converter than SI/DX's? What size clamps should I use?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks again!

LOS

Re: Catalytic Converter on HF

you have to get it from the bottom unless you have some super stretchy arms. Use hose clamps liek you said, go to the hardware store and big big ones that are made for dryer vents. You'll need robably 4-6, link them togehter to go all the way around, put one at the front and one at the back.

Thanks! Thanks for the quick post! Are those drier vent clamps usually found at Home Depot/Lowe's?

Re: Catalytic Converter on HF

I just came back from Home Depot and they have different-sized hose clamps. Usually the 4" ones are the dryer-sized ones, but I found other sizes as well (for household vents, etc): 2", 4", 5", 6", 7", 8", 9", 10" which basically do the same thing: aluminum, etc. and you don't have to do the multiple-linking. Does anybody know the approximate diameter of the cat converter WITH shields so that I may estimate which exact size to go with? If somebody has done this before with standard 4" ones, how many 4" ones did you use to link around the cat? TIA! LOS

Re: Catalytic Converter on HF

Thanks TheSilentChamber! Since there were no 12" ones I saw, I think I can go with two 6" ones = 12" approximate diameter. I am assuming that you used the 4" ones as 4"x3=12". Hopefully that'l kill that irritating vibrating noise.

Thanks again! LOS
