How to lower 98 civic cp with factory suspension?

I want to know how to lower my car using factory suspension that requires no cutting welding or installing other parts if it's possible. Im only looking at about 1-2".

Theres something that holds the coils together. It compresses one or two coils of your springs. I think I've seen something like this... but it was nearly 5 years ago. Since aftermarket springs are so abundant, and affordable, I dont know if they still make those things. Either way... I would recomend against buying them. You ride would be horrible, and you would bounce around alot and look really ridiculous. Just buy springs and lower your car.

^what he said.
I put some neuspeed racing springs (2.25" drop) on my stock struts and it sucked beyond anything, I hated driving my car so much I put the stock springs back on. Suspension is not something you want to half ass.

Follow this advice, and follow it well. Do not half-ass suspension. If you get new springs, you'll need new shocks soon, as the stock ones won't last too long. Also, depending ont he drop, you may need a camber kit (unless you like going through tires quicker). 1.75" or more will need it for sure, 1.5" sometimes does.

Koni shocks are good, Tokicos and KYB's are fine up to about 1.5", but anything more can be too extreme (though tokico claims up to 1.75" is fine, thats pushing it IMO). If you can afford it, just save up and get a good entery level tuned suspension like the H & R Cup Kit or the Tein Basic dampers.

Try to do as much as you can at once. You'll need to have the car re-algined (the toe will defenatly be out at the least) after having shocks, springs, and/or a cmaber kit installed. If you do it all at once, it's maybe $70 to algin it once. If you do the 3 at seperate times, thats $70 times 3, since you'll need to algin iafter each install.

I'm thinking he has an issue with warranty or insurance... and how it will be effected by modifying his car.

re

nah i dont have any warranty issues i just wanted to know if it was possible to drop my ride alittle without having to buy expensive ass suspension components. Since it appears there is no way Ill just heat up my stock springs with a butane torch untill they are cherry red and let the car drop to the desired height also using a jack to keep the car from dropping too low. this idea i just thought off isnt it brilliant?? whooooh!

Oh good lord, Brillant??? Heck no...

Please don't do this. Suspension is NOT something to be screwed around with like that. It is the ONLY thing keeping that care of yours in control over bumps and turns.

Not only does doing something like this risk you ruining your suspension and thereby creating dangerous and unpredictable handling, it puts others cars on the road around you at risk as well as a result of the unpredictablity.

Never ct your springs, and this falls under the same catagory. If you can't afford to drop a car properly, don't do it. Just wait until you have the money. Don't put your life and the life of other poeple around you at risk by trying some stupid and dangerous stunt like that.

Re: How to lower 98 civic cp with factory suspension?

heating springs... thats super old school... but thats way back when aftermarket springs were hard to get, and very expensive. The problem with doing that is once you heat them... they'll start to sag... and never settle. The springs will continue to drop lower and lower. Also, the ride is horrible... and looks hilarious. You'll be bouncing alot. Cutting springs is just as bad. The ride is even worse. Both of these methods are so bad that I can just watch a car drive down the street and tell its been heated or cut... just by the way it keeps bouncing and never stops.

Take your time... save up your money... and do it right. Do you think that poorly of yourself and your car to settle for something so low? Every car deserves better than that. Dont settle for less.

Okay, is this thread a joke? Seriously, just save up the money to do it right, period. Suspension is not something to screw with. I seriously doubt anyone suggested any of this to you in a serious manner.

Just save up money until you have enough to do ith right. Until you can afford to do it right, just live with a stock suspension, period. It will get you from point A to point B safely and in one piece.

You've gotta be kidding me. If you're serious.. I'm going to have to go over the suspension forum and start yelling at people there. You'll have to add around 200 pounds on eah side to make any differnce. Your car will drive around as if it was full of people... all for a 1 inch drop.

Re: How to lower 98 civic cp with factory suspension?

haha, oh man this is kinda sad.

Come on bro,

To be very straight forward with you:
There is no way to lower your car with factory suspension without:
a.)uselessly damaging your car
b.)endangering everyone else on the road
c.)endangering yourself
(this of course has all been said before)

DONT lower a car by adding sandbags or random weight lol, DONT heat up your springs, DONT cut your springs either. Treat your car with some respect, please man. Just save up some and then just get a kit. TRUST US

In the end, getting a lowering kit will work out MUCH better than all these ridiculous ways of lowering.
