I've seen it done but haven't done it. Actually I think there is someone on my email list who is working on a manual trans swap...

Re: has anyone put a 5 speed in a boxy caprice?

Hey cool. I like the idea too. I would really like to put a 5 speed in my 87 caprice classic along with a 350... maybe a fuel injected one. That would be a great set up for making the tires spin The other reason is that I simply don't like any automatic transmission. I prefer going as fast as possible up steep hills yet other times I'm babying it trying to conserve gas.

Re: has anyone put a 5 speed in a boxy caprice?

You don't really need a 350 to get the wheels ta spin... I just recently put a dual exhaust and headers my '84 Caprice with a 305 and Automatic tranny, and wooo, I didn’t think it'd make a difference, but I guess I was wrong. Along with a badass sound, I was able to not only spin the wheels, but smoke both back wheels on dry pavement. Left a pretty nice mark too. If A dual exhaust and headers did that, I'm thinkin about getting a 650 cfm carb, and an Edelbrock Intake

But I really like you 5 speed idea... Itd be pretty cool. I've only seen one other caprice with a stick.

I put a nv3500 in my '90 caprice. Works very good, and doesn't have compound low. Stock driveline.
