Rear spring and shock replacement

Hi folks.. I think one of my rear springs on my 93 escort LX wagon, 1.9L has broken and I know I read that the shock should be replaced as well if I'm changing anything. I'm requesting a quick low down on how to replace the spring and shock, and what tools will I need.

So step by step would be greatly appreciated after I take the tire off, thank you

Easy job.

jack up the car such that rear wheels AND control arms hang.

remove interior trim panels such that you can access the top of both side struts (also easy as pie)

remove both wheels

use a common screw driver and hammer and remove the brake line clip from both struts. it will be stuck with rust, but gently tap the hose fitting down, then the brake line will slide off to the side. If you break this small s-shaped piece of brake line, you will need to replace it and bleed the brakes (not hard)

using a 17mm socket and wrench, remove the 2 pinch bolts holding the bottom of the strut to the wheel mount.

inside the car, use a 14mm wrench to remove the 2 top bolts.

the strut will literally fall out of the car as 1 unit.

the easiest thing to do now is get from the auto parts store of your choice the monroe 'quick struts', change both sides.

insert into place, bolt it back up and away you go.

you may want to replace the pinch bolts with new metric 'fine thread' bolts and washers and torque to 90ft-lbs I forget the size, but take the bolt to the local napa and they will have it. grade 8.8 or 9.8 recommended
