help engine questions
i have a 350 engine that im building. its all stock roller motor i got holley street dominator hi rise intake. i just got deal on 2.02 fuelie heads for 200$ which are brand new, guy wants to get rid of them, the thing is i dont know anything about those style heads cuz i cant find any info on them. if i do that and cam it with roller cam with .5 of lift will i be running so much hp that i have to reinforce things like pistons and rods? its a 2 bolt main block. im going to be running th 350 tranny with a stock 3.73 rearend thats in my 86 camaro 2.8 v6. how much hp do u think i can run without running into the serious chance of blowing rearend very quickly, and having to reinforce the car all around i.e. bigger brakes. stuff like that. should i forget heads and cam it or vice versa so i dont cause myself more money on this venture so i dont have to reinforce things too badly..thoughts on this please!!

Re: help engine questions
the stock rear-end will not stand up to much punishment. i wouldnt go over 350-375 lbs-ft on a stock 10-bolt with 3.73s, but ive been accused of being conservative. if youre not looking to make serious power, you could prolly get away with a posi-trac swap with a 30-spline axle conversion...

Re: help engine questions
i was pushing around 400 on my stock 10 bolt rear with an open rear end (no posi or limited slip) i also had a 2.8 in mine...and with the cam you should be fine.. i was runnin a .501 .520 cam with the dart 2.02 heads with dished pistons just fine

Re: help engine questions
In order to bust that rearend, your gonna have to not only put out a bunch of power, but your going to have to be able to hook up well. The only real difference in strength in your rearend is that it would have 26? splined axles i think.

so my stock 2.8 3.73 im talkin factory came from chevy rearend will hold with a cammed engine and 2.02 fuelie heads somwhere in between 300-400 hp?? my stock 350 pistons will hold too with stock crank and connecting rods?? motor only has 5-8000 miles on it brand new.
i am looking to make some super serious hp with this car but keep it a daily driver what is the line where i cross to wekend monster on that ???? but i i will keep it on the d/l until i have the time and or money to do it through out the whole car, i have money for the engine but basicly this car is my one and only daily driver so a week off of work to put this motor in with new tranny can be done but if im pushin 350 hp and blow rearend ill be up a creak any comments on this?? waht are my limits i want to blow some door off!! p.s. rears got almost 200k does that matter.... |
