trading in a car

do most dealerships give a car a thorough test drive if you are giong to trade it in to them. my gf wants to trade in her 97 sonoma but her tranny is messed up and doesnt shift past 2nd gear so was curious if they would find out about this and if there is any law requiring us to tell them about it. thx

As far as i know there is no law requiring that you tell them, however, if you put your signature on a written document stating that there is nothing wrong with the car, i think it is against the law, but im no expert.
The dealership may or may not test drive or inspect the vehicle, but i think most dealerships would.
