Computer code PO401....

I just went to AutoZone this week and had them scan my blazer (2000) and the code was PO401 and the lady told me that the gas cap was the problem and to change it. Did that and three days later my check engine soon light came on again. I have read here that the EGR might be dirty and needs cleaning and or changed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Truck specs are 2000 blazer V6 4x4 LT bout 62000 miles and NO driveablitity problems that you can tell.

Re: Computer code PO401....

EGR would be a different code.

The problem is, is that I don't have codes memorized. I cheat when at work. However, I believe that your problem is linked to the evap system.

Do you have a manual?

Re: Computer code PO401....

Yes, if it says Secondary Air Flow and I do believe that the 400's are emission related (Geez, this is what happens when you get old, can't remember what else) , then you should check your EGR.
What's throwing me is that you have'nt mentioned on the drivability of the truck. If there is carbon stuck, your drivability would suck.

Have you checked all your hoses and make sure one has not fallen off?

Re: Computer code PO401....

This does have an LEGR? If it does, itis possible that the EGR is functioning but the ECM is not getting a reading from it. But if that is the case, why did Autozone tell you the gas cap?

A little more info would be great.

In the very first post i said there are no known driveability problems, but i tried to get it inspected and it failed immediately for the stupid code.

Re: Computer code PO401....

P0401 is for the EGR valve which is plugged.

Remove it and spray it with throttle body cleaner, make sure it is clear and reinstall. Then reset your computer by pulling the negative battery cable off of the battery for 10 minutes and you should be good to go.

Re: Computer code PO401....

Also have a question regarding adding video equipment to my truck and what strain if any the electrical system may incur. I would like to add 4 monitors (7") and a dvd player and an XBox. Would i have to add any electrical components like a bigger alt or a second battery to ensure the truck doesnt suffer from the extra draw?

Re: Computer code PO401....

You would have to see what the total power they would need would be.
