1989 Bmw 535i sell or keep?

i have a 89 series. i got it june of this year.

im debating if i should keep it or sell it, or if i sell it is worth much im asking for? help!

cons: the instrument panel (speedometer) doesnt show the mileage anymore likes faded. told the capacitators are out. so need another.

driver side seat is worn bottom part.

sunroof motors is out., actually it works but i disconnected the cable because iwhen i do all of a sudden it opens by itself half way and all my other windows stop working and roll down or half way as well.

NEEDS brakes bad!!!!!!!

it has 194k miles. no leaks nor nothing runs good no problems.
doesnt burn oil whatsoever.

the A/C is out, needs a new compressor.
the good:

like i said it runs perfect. i put new tires and a new panasonic stereo.

paint is great just like 3 lil dings.

the whole interior is clean no rips except the driver side bottom cushion.

all original

tinted windows.

so what do you guys think? should i keep and fix it up or should i just sell it and if i do think i'll get like $3k for it?

Find otu how much you can get for it. Go price around on other cars that you would want to buy. Then pick if you want to seel it or not. If I was you I would sell it and put it as a downj payment on a 03 528 with a sport package.

Yes, BMW's will last a long, long time if properly cared for. If you can afford a newer 5-Series, that's what I'd get. If that's a stretch, I don't see a problem with maintaining your car, and even fixing it up a bit.

I have a 1990 535i which I bought in April with 129,000 mi. Right now I am at 146,000. I plan on running it to at least 200,000, and would say there's a good chance of the car getting there without any major problems. (As you can see my appetite for miles is quite significant and I'd like to buy a second car to distribute the miles more fairly).

I think the E34 still looks contemporary--body style stayed around until 1995. By the way, check autotrader for 535's, and well as Kelley Blue Book value.

Blue Book for my car with its miles is about $4,500.
I have seen VERY NICE 1989 or 1990 535i's on autotrader with 200,000 miles or thereabouts going for $5,000-7,000. Of course in average condition this would be much lower, maybe $3,000-4,000. Based on what you described, you'd be getting ripped off if you accepted less than $3,000.

Re: 1989 Bmw 535i sell or keep?

I've got a 94 530i with 142k miles and it runs like it was bought off the showroom floor back in 1994. If your into electronics and stuff, pick up some caps from Radio Shack. It's a $2 venture that saves you about $700. I think its like around $2 for all of those caps.

As for the motors and stuff, junkyards and stuff have plenty of motors, as does eBay.
