S430 electronic shifter sensor fails
I sent my 2000 S430 into the body shop a week ago to get repairs done. Recently, right after the car is finished, the electronic shifter sensor fails causing the car to go into "limp mode". The fuss now is, did this happen coincedentally or were they (the body shop) the ones that caused the problem?
So, what I would like to know is, how often does the electronic shifter sensor on a 4 year old $80k Mercedes go out? Has anyone heard of this before? Help appreciated, thanks. |

Re: S430 electronic shifter sensor fails
It hasnt happend to me with my dads S500. They must have done something to your shifting sensor. I dont know that much about the shifting mechanism.

I've never had a problem with the gearbox, but I've heard of it before. Blame it on them, and get the work done free. 80k is a lot tho.
(off topic for a sec, sorry, but jcz1987; where has the pic of the C32 come from? Is it yours, and do you actually drive it?)

^ Yes that is my car that you are looking at. I just got that as my car. It is my everyday car and I love it. I got it as a gift for doing very well in school.

The ESM (Electronic Selector Module) on S-classes go out all the time. It may be related to the body shop, it may not. I can't really say without looking at a fault code read-out. What was it in the body shop for?
