99 Ford windstar power window and lock problems

It started out that my passenger side auto door lock would not work sometimes..now it pretty much does not work all of the time. We could live with that but now the passenger side auto window is only working some of the time and I fear that will eventually go out all the way and also I have noticed once in a while the driver's side lock isn't working. What could be causing this ? I have an appt with the dealer but it is no longer under warranty and I hate to go into this blindly...how much could this all cost to fix and what do you think the problem could be ?

I am really clueless in this and don't want to be taken advantage of when getting it fixed.

The only "single" area, that I see, that can be the cause of all your symptoms is the "master window control switch" that resides on driver's door ... or its 12v supply.

The switch is a bit of work to get to and check out .. on the driver's door panel ... but there are a couple of easy things to check out on the 12v supply. You may want to make sure that fuse #18 in the fuse panel next to driver's left foot is in good shape .. no corrosion on fuse base or receptable .. use some lubricant. While you're in that panel, you may want to replace relay "Accessory Delay Relay" (#2 .. top center relay). Also check fuse #106 in the battery junction box. Look at your glovebox manual for additional info on these areas.

After the above, things get a bit more difficult to trouble-shoot. But if you don't find anything with what I've given you ... and you're game, we can lead you thru some mo'.

What is weird is now the window works..up until it rains ! Then it won't work for a day or so and then start working again ? Any ideas ?

Sounds like the window motor may be failing and as well the door actuators. When the window sliders become lubricated in the rain they slip a little easier and hence the motor works less. I have replaced both, drivers and passenger door lock actuator's on my 96' Windstar and my drivers window needs a helping push "down", on occasion. Look up /search >>"Door locks" at the top of this page and I had put a web site on a previous querie ....to ease accessing the door panel to get at the motors window and door lock. Wreckers prices are a far cry better then Ford's let me tell you!
