This is Z related but more about the owners of them.

This is a question to all of you all out there, just to see whos who on these forums.

I would like to know where abouts in the world are you(Dont have to be specific if you dont want to just general area.)

What kind of Z do you have, how long you have had it, why you bought it, and what you have done to it.

Lastly how old you are, and how long you have been working on cars or driving them. (by working on I mean tinkering, modifing or wrench time)

I will start with myself.

I am Eric in the real world, Hodo is my screen name everywhere I go. I am currently in North Carolina, US of A. I have had my Green '95 300ZX for about 2-3 months, been searching for one for about 7 months before that. I havent done anything to it yet but I plan on begining my work in the summer next year. I bought my Z becuase as a kid I always played with the 240Z and the 280Z hotwheels cars, I later fell in love with the Z31, I had 3 models of them and 2 hotwheels cars of them. I then grew up and drove a freind of mines Z32 2+2 AT, I was in love from there on out. This was in '94, I searched around then but the cost of the car was WAY TOO much for a 17y/o kid in WV working part time at McDonalds. So I waited, drove a '66 Impalla 4dr for a few years till, I needed something more practical to get me around at college. So I aquired a '89 Ford Ranger, I did some work to it but nothing to the engine, Fuel injection was beyound my understanding at that point in my life. After I returned from my stent in the army and Korea, I was driving a ZX2 Escort I loved that car too, but it was a practical kind of fun. After about 2 years with that car I began to look for the 300ZX(Z32) that I had wanted for almost 10 years. It took me 7 months 3 states, and just around 100 dealerships and private party cars to find the right one. But thats another story all together. To finish it all off I have been working on cars for around 11 years now in one way shape or form, and been driving for about the same amount of time. Most of my driving experiance is from rear wheel drive vehicles. And about 3 years of that was getting sideways in a truck, I was a drifter before drifting hit the US, now I have grown out of that phase, I still love drifting but now I am a grip driver, love the road course. As some of you have probly guessed I am probly a bit older than most of you, at the ripe old age of 27, some would say I need to grow up and stop playing with cars and going to raves, but, as long as my heart beats and I hear the sound of a engine reving to take a corner, or the pulse of the trance music still thrives somewhere in the world, I will continue to go do all that I love.

Well I hope this picks up and someothers on here decided to say something about themselves, because we are all a complete mystery to each other. I understand this maybe off-topic, but I think its more on topic than some posts. Its good to know your fellow Z infatuationest. After all we need a support group. lol

ok...not a bad idea.

my name is jason and i am from a small city about 50 miles south of chicago, illinois. i have a 1990 nissan 300zx 2+2 N/A Auto (yeah i know, not the best of all). i am 18 now and i have been working on cars for about 3 years. i started with my grandpa who helps build stock and modified dirt cars for owners and racers in the area. i then fell in love with the 300zx at about 16 when i owned a 1993 mercury cougar but i didnt think i would ever be able to own one. then i had this sudden determination to go buy a z32 about a year ago. i looked for about 3 months and finally came up with my baby. i have owned it for about 9 months.
i have big plans for my z. it will basically be undergoing a complete resurrection of this coming winter.
i think thats about it. thanks for reading my life story. any comments you can keep to yourself!!!

Well! my name is Travis and i'm from the great white north... you guessed it.. Canada!! that's right... from a nice little town called Kelowna which is about 4 hours drive away from vancouver.. i have recently aquired a 1986 300zx n/a and i love it! i'm 18 and i've been working on cars ever since i got my first car about 2 years ago. i drove my 93 integra for just under 2 years and did some minor modifications to it before i was involved in a 4 car pileup which wrote the car off... luckily, i got a pretty sweet deal out of it and came out with my 300zx! i've had a few minor mods done to the car... cat back custom exhaust (with removal of cat).. new tranny (old one was shot) and now in the process of removing my ac (compressor is seized). i don't have big plans for this car as i am looking to purchase a z32 tt come late spring next year. some things i do plan on doing are replacing the throttle body with a 240sx/stanza tb to get a little more power as well as probably a cone filter... if that doesn't hold me, probably a nice new set of headders, and then i'll be done (knowing me probably not.) i'm trying to turn around the way the automotive community views kids our age, but i'm not getting much help from all the 'ricer' punks out there... hopefully one day we'll all learn to repect our automobiles and one another, but i don't see that happening any time soon. i think that's about it...

Re: This is Z related but more about the owners of them.

My name is Jorge (or George for you non-spanish speaking guys)... I live in Southern California, Applevalley to be exact... that's in the High-Desert area. I'm soon to be 24 in December. I have been around cars since I can remember (my pop owned his own auto/machine shop for quite some time. My dad loved muscle-cars so natrually I did too (bet you didn't know that!). I owned a '69 TA, '71 Mustang Coupe 302, '78 TA, '78 Camaro (straight six?), '72 Cougar XR-7, '03 Sentra SER, and a '91 240SX Coupe. Alot of Muscle for someone who hates V8's in a Z, huh? Kinda weird but true. I always admired powerful imports... my dad has a '93 (?) Supra TT. I wanted a Hon-duh back in the early days of the import scene. The Nissan bug bit me arond '99 and '00 but I didn't get one until I got my Sentra. After I got rid of the Sentra I was already really into drifting and I bought my 240SX... but soon I noticed that everyone was trying to sport the dorifto look so I had to change my style. Sold the 240SX and I wanted to buy either an S14 240SX or a Z. I came to this lot and I found a Z31 300ZX, a Z32, and a Legacy Wagon... well I guess you know the rest of the story, huh? I have a '90 NA Z32 2+2 with AT like k3smostwanted. I have had mine as long as him too I think... 9 months... since January. I guess my habit of owning muscle-cars kinda crept it's way in in the form of a Z. After all, they call Z's JDM muscle cars! Big plans in the future for my Zed... see sig. I plan on purchasing a 240Z and doing a L28ET swap or a Z31 Turbo and beefing that up or doing a 200ZR conversion with an RB20DET...

85 NA auto that a friend of the family gave to me for free and I have practicaly put everything new into it.
Dropped a valve about 3 weeks ago and have been trying to sell the car ever since.
Ive been working on cars all my life since my dad used to be a mechanic and now I am, currectly empyoed at Princeton BMW.

Since I cant drive the Z I have a 88 caddy brougham that Im "pimpin" out right now. Im thinking of what rim size I should get my 100 spoke knock offs in. Im always in the market for another car. Im looking for eather 62-72 chevys, plymouths, dodges, crysters or fords. Im more along the lines of a 67 mustang and put a 409 into it. But thats just a dream right now. Im also looking at a 88 2 door caddy brougham yellow outside, white top and white int.

But what I truely would love to have is a 87-89 Z31 5speed turbo with tank or black interior. I have found my car but it has 200000 miles on it and they want 2500 so they can go blow it out their ass.

I hate rice because everyone around here thinks there vin deseil, so I just like to slow them all down in my 6000 lb caddy.

I guess that wasnt very condesed but to bad.

Re: This is Z related but more about the owners of them.

my name is jared and i live in a smallish town in kansas called gardner, about 40 minutes south of kansas city. i am 16 and i have a 1993 300zx n/a 5-speed. some of you might think that i have to have parents that are paying for everything, nope, the only thing they are paying is $75/month for insurance (i pay the other $100) since my last care was that much per month. i have had my car for almost 6 months now. i drove my beater car for about a year and thens started looking for another car. i first looked at getting a celica. then i found out how gay the are, and then looked at getting a mr-2. then one fateful day, i saw a z32 and absolutely fell in love with it. from that day on, i knew my quest, and that was to own a z32. i looked for about 5 months before i finally bought my baby. and i have loved her ever since.

My name is Karen and I'm 22 years old.
I live in Ft. Worth Texas.
I have loved Z's since I was 12. I was the dork in high school with pictures of Z cars in my binders and in my locker.
I bought my Z on September 27th, 2001. Exactly 3 years and 10 days ago. (not that I remember or anything!) Its an 85 Turbo, 5 speed. I love that car. I dont have much done to it, just intake and exhaust. The car hasnt been running since I had my baby in April and I miss her bad. Just dont have the money to get her fixed again
I really dont "work" on cars so to speak.....I can change the oil, change a tire, fuel filter, some small stuff. I'm not as mechanically gifted as you guys all are, but I'm learning, so dont laugh at me.
Anyway.....this is her in all her brokedown glory

Well, Im John.. and I live in North Carolina... And I needed a getaway vehicle...

Well... I didnt really get into cars as much till I was 16... and that was the point in my life when suddenly, I was meant to have a car at that time, Either I get one, or my life is over. So my life was over. Then I got a Mustang... and my heart was still beating... then they wouldent insure a kid with a practicly brand new mustang... and my heart stopped beating again. Sold the mustang, Got a convertable cavalier. Drove it for a year, Hard, like I wanted to kill myself. Eventualy, I killed the car instead. Never had an accident, blew the engine and the braking system. After that, I became a biker only... Had around 6 motorcycle accidents... and went to California... (Drift... I feel sorry for you... Southern California is a horrible place) Went through another car that blew up right after buying it... And then... around 2 and a half weeks ago... I found the new love of my life.

I actualy was looking for a car, cause Iv got 2 bikes that Im still working on here, But I needed a daily driver. And I wont drive just any car. So I started looking around... and I had always been a fan of Zs... I was in the car with my mom one day when I saw a really hot car infront of us... and I couldent see any kind of identification on it, so I looked until I could find the the stamp in the middle on the back that said 300ZX.... And I was like... Wow... Thats pretty cool. Later on.. a friend tried to get me to buy one that was pretty cheap on Ebay... Had a digital dash, and I really liked it... Then... a friends Dad tried to sell me a 280Z (83 model, T-tops, Like 101,000 miles on it. Very good conditon) For 3000 dollars, but I didnt wanna pay that much for a car at the time... But here I am... a few months later... And I started my search for a Z. Looked all around.... And I had lost hope... Till the next day, found a nice one in the bargain trader, Had looked at some Really crusty Z31s... And Im really glad I ended up with the one I got, I drove it all the way back to my house that day, durring the middle of a hurricane! She started a coolant leak that night, and I ended up doing general maitence and some repairs, and now, shes a peach, and Iv got a little more to do before shes back to OEM specs, But Im really happy with this car, and I intend to keep it for the rest of my life, as my little hot rod... So Now I ride around in my T-tops, 1986 N/A(For now... I may end up doing a RB20DET swap in a month, or a VG30ET, Or I may just build my engine till It goes, and I needa new one, and then Ill decide what new to get then, lol.) Anyway, I love the car, and I really like the people Iv met and been introduced to because of the car. I think it will be one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.

Re: This is Z related but more about the owners of them.

Name's Mike. I'm a 19 year old Aussie and my Z31 is my first car (purchased about 2 years ago). The main thing I fell in love with were the T-tops.

I was first looking at getting a 2nd gen RX7 but they were out of my price range and I had heard alot of bad stuff about blowing the apex seals on rotaries (mainly from friends of friends etc.). When I saw the z31 though, I was hooked. I got it from some stupid real estate agent woman who had been given it as a gift from her father and as such had no idea about the value of it. I bargained her all the way down from $3500 to $2500 and drove it away that day. Coming out of the first street I lost the back end and almost totaled it (I had only ever driven fwd hatchbacks up until then). I remember the day like it was yesterday. Real sunny day, cruising with the tops off, music pumping. One of the best days of my life.

Anyway, about a year ago I kinda got bored with the power so I thought about swapping in the VG30ET but I figured that if I was going to be swapping in an engine, I might as well go the full hog and swap in something half decent. So I got a loan for $8k and bought a z32 front cut. Got a local mechanic to fab up some custom mounts for it. Got some trick custom tuned length exhaust headers made up for it. All the custom electrics done. Got it towed back home about 3 months ago where it's been sitting ever since.

I still need to replace the leaky water pump and timing belt. I still need to sort out the custom driveshaft. Still need to sort out the oil filter bracket. After these three things have been done, I will then have the car of my dreams. I promise you all that I will post many many videos of me doing insane, reckless, complete-loss-of-traction style driving techniques once its all finished.

-Mike

Re: This is Z related but more about the owners of them.

I'm Brent. I'm 21. Live in Northern Kenfucky. Restaurant manager.

Bought my first Z31 when I was 16...it was a 5-speed 2+2 and my first car. I loved that car. Bought it from some bartender lady up here in Cincinnati. It had a mere 118K miles on it and was like NEW...got it for $2,700. I'd do it again in a heart beat. Over time I tinted the windows, put in a ~300 watt 12" MTX sub and a couple tweeters...bitch would set off car alarms regularly...I loved it. I also put in a K&N filter (had to settle for a oem replacement flat kind cuz I accidentally ordered that one instead of a cone). I also put Tokico lowering springs in it right before I sold it (kinda stupid, I know) and it looked KILLER. I did some moderate work to it myself...alternater (fun...), plugs, wires, intake, reg maintenance, etc. I knew it would never be horribly fast, so I didn't try to mod it too much or anything. I always yerned for a turbo...either Z32TT or Z31T. My parents talked me into selling it before I left florida and I regret it to this day.

After that I didn't have a car, so I would drive my dad's Malibu...I hated that car. Then I got an 86 Celica GT-S as a beater. It was alright...just transportation. (Quick sidenote...the Celica is for sale...if anyone wants it, lemme know.)

After I pulled my head out of my ass and stopped spending money like no tomorrow, I raked some money together and started the hunt for my Z31T. That was an adventure within it self. I ended up driving an hour and a half or so to Indianapolis to get my current Z31T. It's an 86 Turbo with a 5-speed...of course. I have a K&N on it (the cone one this time...), a manual boost controller (soon to be a Greddy Profec...the MBC kinda blows), and I'm getting a 3" exhaust on it soon. I've done an alternator swap on this as well, but put a Maxima alt on it as an upgrade, and the usual small repairs. I get to pull the valve covers soon to replace the gaskets cuz they're leaking. That should be fun. Maybe I'll do some more mods while I'm in there....we'll just have to see...

Not going to go into what I would like to do to the car cuz this post would get waaaaaaaaay too long.

Re: This is Z related but more about the owners of them.

My name is Barrett and I'm 20 years old. I currently drive a prelude as the name/sig/avatar implies, but i aquired a 1970 240z about a month ago.

Since then I have gone through several stages of what I want to do to the car. Everything from a V8 swap to an SR20DET to an F20C. I decided that right now, I would just like to have the car running, so I plan on buying a head for the original L24 (i still need one btw). What inspires me about the car is it's weight and the simplicity of it. I plan to auto-x and really learn how to drive well in it.

Prior to buying my Z, I was really captivated by the Z32. I remember the first time seeing one. In the early nineties, I was riding with my dad and this black Z32 passed on the driver's side. I asked my dad what it was and he said a Nissan. From then on, I lusted like a deathrow prisoner. Of course, I couldn't afford the TT that I wanted and foolishly thought an N/A wouldn't be as nimble and reliable as the prelude I currently own. The prelude has been a great car to me. It introduced me to many members of this board, gave me a solid mechanical foundation, and just really got me into newer cars. As good as she's been, the prelude will be replaced with a black, red, or gunmetal Z32TT eventually.

Like many of you on here, my roots are in classic cars. I've worked on everything from '56 Buicks to '50 Jaguar XK120. When I was 13 years old, my dad bought me a $400 pickup that we both restored until I could drive. This is still my number-one-baby-girl-love-to-death truck. I intend to be buried in her:

I hope to get to know all of you who frequent this forum and exchange valuable ideas as I transition from honda to nissan. The bug bit me hard as well. Thanks for reading my automotive life story.

Re: This is Z related but more about the owners of them.

This is good lets try and keep it up for anyone else who comes in and would like to introduce themselves.

I found a Z31 here in Mooresville thats for sale, its not in the best of shape, but it looks like it can be saved. Its mostly paint fading and probly some maintance to get it back to road worthyness.
