Exclamation trans and engine mount Q and prob

I took my POS 95 Aurora in the a shop the other day to see how many thousands of dollars it would cost to have it fixed. Thinking the tranny was bad i was prepared for anything. Oh and btw i had to jump start the car to get it to the shop.
I bought the car about 8 months ago.. has slight problems then, like jolting backwards and knocking when put in reverse. But i thought it was beautiful so i dished out the $5000 (well most, i still owe $1000). I didnt buy it from a dealer so my parents loaned me the extra money i needed for it. Anyway, I was the dumb one to pay $5000 for a car that had over 200,000 miles on it.. Yeah you read that right 200,000.
Anyway back to the shop.. i get there and they tell me i need a power stearing presure line (which i figured since i had been putting powersteering fluid in it every day till it quit running) i also need an alternator, and suposedly 1 engine mount and 1 transmision mount. Well the guy quoted me $480 for labor and told me to hunt for parts on my own.. He pointed to the front driverside of my car said "you need this one" and to the rear passenger side (by firewall) saying "you need that one"
k well im a chick so that was about as simple as it got for me.. So i called the gm dealer and explained to them what the guy said and how he said i needed a trans and engine mount and boy that started an argument. Becuase neither of the ones he pointed to are engine mounts.. both are trans! So i called the guy back.. and he says that i need the front engine mount on the passenger side now and the rear trans mount against the fire wall on the passenger side. Well i specificaly remember him pointing to the front drivers side. And when i explained this to the guy at the parts store he said that made more sense since Auroras have had problems with those 2 specific trans mounts. But since the mechanic insisted i need the engine mount i bought it. Haven taken it in to be fixed yet and rather worried i bought the wrong part cause i cant take it back. Thing is i can see the front engine mount and there is a noticeable bulge and crack in the cushioning plastic in it. So i guess its safe to assume thatones broke but im wondering if the other is also.
Anyone have any idea??? If you had to replace yours which did you have to replace?

i have the same car ans the rear transmission mount was completely blown out(that is the rubber bushing inside the mount) the frt engine mount also needed replacment as it was taking all the abuse and compensating for the blown out one. best bet is proboly spend the extra bucks and do them both, cant get it wrong this way

Re: trans and engine mount Q and prob

Geez... Makes me feel good that my 95 doesnt have nearly as many problems. My suggestion is to save some money on the side and buy a different car. Auroras are HARD TO WORK ON. Nobody knows very much about them most people I know think that it comes with a V6. I let anyone work on my car. If you are going to have an aurora as your daily driver you gotta know how to fix it yourself or you are gonna be paying lots of money to fix it.

Re: trans and engine mount Q and prob

When I went to look up the part #s for my broken ones, I was actually told that 3 of them hold up both the engine and the transmission, while the 4th is just an engine mount. I got something akin to the same argument. Either way this was really damn expensive to look at.

To tell the truth mine are still broken- my input speed sensor in the tranny was making mine slam in reverse like you described, and it likely broke the mounts doing that. Mine however, are merely cracked, and the rubber is good. Since no one in town could get them for 2 weeks, my tranny work got done and the mounts are still busted.
