Z31 Recall.

Ok, I was wondering, has anyone had the Z31 fuel injector recall done on there cars? I hear, if I have it done, Ill get new fuel rails, all new injectors, a new fuel filter, all sorts of good stuff, and I think I can work it out with them for them to change my valve cover gaskets in the process. But Iv heard some people have had wiring issues, and problems after they got there cars back from the dealership, then the dealership blamed the age of the car.... But I would kind of like the new stuff... And I was thinking maybe they could look at my steering while they were at it possibly cheaper too... I was hoping at least... Anyway, what should I do?

Re: Z31 Recall.

First check to be sure if the recall has already been done - going to the dealership with the VIN would be a start. At this stage, most of the cars have already had the recall done. The electrical problems could also depend on whether or not your car has already had some electrical work, where a prior owner may have jerryrigged the wires to begin with.

Just remember that the dealership will work on the parts for the recall separately from anything else. Just because they will have the car up on a lift does not mean that they will put in 'all sorts of good stuff', as well as change gaskets and then steering...they're all very different things. Wiring should have nothing to do with anything, too. The reason for the recall was because too many of the cars were failing, or even bursting into flames. Steering and gaskets don't actually fall under that category.

See if the dealership will do a 'courtesy check' of the above, then if I were you I'd get quotes, since sometimes some of the work (outside of the things covered under recall) can be done cheaper at even a Pep Boys, Sears or Auto Zone, and still be covered under some sort of warranty.
