Auto Shifting problem
in my 1991 3.0L Taurus a few days ago I floored the gas and the tranny held 1st past 60 kph (usually shifts at about 55) and thats when I let off the gas, so I have no idea when it would have actually shifted, I double checked and it was not in 1 it was in OD by the selecter on the dash (which works very well) has anyone else ever had this problem, it's not huge, I rarely ever floor my car, only once every few weeks to try to clean some of the carbon out of the motorany insightr on this will be much appricated

Re: Auto Shifting problem
i believe '91s may still have a kickdown cable, check to make sure its tight if you do indeed have one.

Re: Auto Shifting problem
but the car never kicked down, I hit the gas from a standstill, how does the cable work anyway? what affect would tightining have on shifting, would it make it more or less shift happy?

Re: Auto Shifting problem
the cable goes from the Throttle Body to the transmission and when you floor the throttle, tells the transmission to drop down a gear
