rear end swap (and brakes)

ok well i have a 91 rs which came equiped w/ rear drum brakes....i aquired a positraction rear end out of an 87 iroc. i was told (by an obviosly incompetant mechanic) that it would be an easy swap one for the other...obviously hed never done it. well the iroc had rear disc brakes and i went w/ that idea and just got different callipers. well i did that and had almost no back brakes...i found out on my own to get the porportioning valve from the same year and model car. put that on and still my brakes feel very spongy and i can press them to the floor w/ very little resistance (bleed brake from master back). i was wondering if i need a different master cyilinder and if so what all i need other than just the case. also my pad makes a kind of wobbling noise when i let of the gas and i was told that its because i didnt keep my ebrake and the braket normally keeps presure on the brakes. i would love to resolve this problem i have especially since today my brake warning light came on (although i belive it might be the speed sensor since they r know to have problems)

Re: rear end swap (and brakes)

you didnt swap your e-brake over?? bad form. as for the lack of brake pressure, i think you just have to keep bleeding the system. how did you do it? as in, pump and hold, or vacuum? when we did a complete brake upgrade on my buddies rx-7 we bled the brakes for two nights, and still had to take it to a shop for the vacuum deal.

ofcourse, you could need a different brake booster, i only know about the swap on the fourth gens, not third...

Re: rear end swap (and brakes)

well the iroc rear end didnt have a ebrake braket on it and when i got my car it had one for the drum brakes so i guess ill have to go to the junk yard and pull one, but i had a shop but the rear end in after i cleaned it up and installed the brakes because i had a bolt i just could break loose and they had to heat it or cut it or somethin and they said they bled it from the master cylinder back....but i looked and the master cylinders with four wheel disc brakes had larger openings than the others did i thought this might be the problem

Re: rear end swap (and brakes)

i think the problem is that you are just missing a piece of the four wheel disc puzzle. i.e: master cylinder, booster, proportioning valve and the like...

Re: rear end swap (and brakes)

i dont know if you need the booster, im just guessing parts of the brake system. what i did when i swapped my car to 4 disc, i went to a parts website and looked at all the brake parts they sold. i documented which parts were specifically for disc brakes and which ones werent. then all i had to do was plug and play...
