98 Toyota corolla
I have a 98 toyota corolla. What does diagnostic code 440 mean and how do you correct it? Please help!!!!!!

did you do a web search for OBD2 (on-board diagnostic computer, 2nd generation all cars 1998 and on)
I think 440 is a problem with EVAP leakage, meaning a leak in the gas tank vapour recirculation problem. Usually it is cause either by a gas cap not tighten sufficiently or a leak in the EVAP hoses. Check your gas cap first. |

gas cap seal is a common problem with our Corolla,
This year and last I think, We started putting warnings on the gas cap. It will "throw a code" ,I'll check tomorrow at work if it's 440. Outthere Too |

P0440 Evaporative Emission Control System Malfunction Vapor pressure sensor Fuel tank cap incorrectly installed Fuel tank cap cracked or damaged Vacuum hose cracked, holed, blocked, damaged or disconnected Hose or tube cracked, holed, damaged or insufficient seal Fuel tank cracked, holed or damaged Charcoal canister cracked, holed or damaged Fuel tank over fill check valve cracked or damage Outthere Too. |

If you filled up on fuel with the vehicle running, it will trigger the code also.
