Is there any trick to sealing a leaking heater core on a 2001 Ram Pickup 1500 4x4. The dealer wants close to $1000.00 to replace it. I've tried the ole pepper trick but with little results.

Re: Steam inside windshield
Surely a salvage yard would be cheaper if you can do it your self. Parts stores sell some sealer but its a 50/50 gamble on wheather it works or not.

The dealer said the whole dashboard has to come off which is more complicated than I want to tackle... Any recommendations for a good sealer, or any other suggestions? Thanks. |

Re: Steam inside windshield
If you live far enough south, you could loop the heater hose back to the water pump....temporary fix until you get the underdash fixed, and would solve your leak problem....but no heat.

Well I live in Rhode Island and the temperature here this morning was 30*F. So going without heat is not an option. I've heard of putting a raw egg in the radiator, pepper, and numerous other tricks. I'm looking for another one to get buy this problem.

Re: Steam inside windshield
Whups, RI is a bit far north for that trick...I live south of Richmond, VA so that would work here.....looks like the dash has to come off....too bad they didn't design it as a unit that could be pulled from the engine side.
