Smile Mustang Sketches (also a newbie)

Howdy, I'm a newbie to the site, my boyfriend Will69Camaro got my to join the guys over in car modeling (not sure how much overlap there is on this site) In addition to building models, I also do a few simple sketches and I was wondering if you artists could give me some feedback on them! I only have a few old Mustang drawings scanned in at the moment:

Re: Mustang Sketches (also a newbie)

the first one is good, did you use a grid? It looks like it is leaning to the right side. hood scoops alittle off but that can be overcome with practice. the second one is also good, the wheels are way to square, make them rounder at the corners and the right light is smaller than the left.

Re: Mustang Sketches (also a newbie)

Just be loose.

You might want to try the box method like this:

Other than that it's really jsut a matter of practice. There's no easier way.

Let's see more.

Re: Mustang Sketches (also a newbie)

Not bad, Very simple though. They both seem to be leaning. It is kinda like the driver weighed 600 lbs:P

wait up HONU. I got a lazy shock on my car. It's a mechanical fatigue condition. It has nothing to do with my obsession with nutter butters.

Lol man, that's funny...I guess, but I mean, c'mon? If you own a nice car ( Like a mustang) you would get that looked at and fixed....

The top one is supposed to be leaning, as though it was going around a hard corner. I didn't use a grid, the best paper I have is the engineering paper I use in class so that's what I do my cars on. I'll try to get some more pics up tomorrow. Sketching isn't really my strong point, but I like to have nice covers on my notebooks, gets a lot of attention in class

Re: Mustang Sketches (also a newbie)

ok you're on the verge of getting several things. you can draw. great. you will benefit from using lines of projection to draw-through objects. this will eliminate the leaning car syndrome, the lazy headlight drooping, and assymetrical direct front-end views as you did in the second drawing (the sides do not match -you have a mirror lower than the other, a tire wider than the other....).

it's quite novel to have a female on here.

Whoa...never thought about it that way. Never taken an art class though, haven't fit it in yet. I'd probably be the only engineer in there!

(I'm a Mechanical Engineering student at Texas A&M)

Some more sketches:

These are a little smudged from being in my notebook. As you can tell, the Camaro is also unfinished...I'm thinkin, lose the hockey stick stripes, some Fikses...it has a Balwin Motion hood on it right now.

Re: Mustang Sketches (also a newbie)

There alot better than you first sketches. The Camaro in particular is very good. Take your time with the wheels and try some shading and it will look great.

Welcome to AF

The mustang looks great, but the bonnet is at an awkward angle. The tires also look kinda boxy, but the perspectives are good.

Here's a lady who does cars that's very good.

http://www.motorsportsillustrated.com

Actually I know a few female car artist, and all of them are great. I'll send more links if you're interested.

The late Shawn Kerri of CARtoons magazine is one of my alltime favorites.
