If you want to push closed to 30psi on the turbos - you'll be wanting the VR4. The AWD will help put the power to the pavement. Modding the SL into a turbo has been done, but it still remains FWD which will run into the traction limitiations before the VR4 will.

All that said, you're looking at bucket loads of time and money to do as you suggested. Alter Atmosphere has built such a car (or two) that is running in the tens. From the mods that they had to do - you're looking at 12K+ in alterations and then untold hours tuning the car.

Jump over to therer website and see what you'll be in for. http://www.alteredatmosphere.com/3000gt.asp

well the difference are like those between Bunta's heavily tunned 86 and a SOHC Levin! ........sorry too much Initial D.

Well the body and accessories are the same. the VR-4 has AWD, all wheel steering, Active aero, sport/tour exhaust, 6 speed and the Getrag tranny. all of which the SL lacks. so yeah to get a SL and mod it is not so wise. its cool if thats what you like but in the end it'd be better to get the vr-4

Ok so the VR4 it is how much HP does the jspec engine get there is a guy in my area that owns a import shop he said he could pick me up a VR4 TT full enigne with no more than 40k on it for round 5000$. I know its bound to have more just how much more. Sry so many ??s i mostly dabble in steroes for cars and every now and than the nissian or 2. So i'm not familier in mistu engines.

Re: Wanting a 3000gt

VR4s had 300hp till 94 when they raised the boost pressure which gave it 320hp. Try a search for what your looking for including the J-spec engine, I think the euro-spec engine had bigger turbos also so look into that too.

Young, do you think thats a big advantage? Do you regret not spending a little more to get the 6 speed? Just asking because I'm gonna have to decide wheather to get a first or second gen before the end of the school year.
