fog lights

A friend of mine gave me fog lamps (just the lamps). I have a 2004 1500 Silverado that didn't come with fog lamps and I would like to install the ones he had. They came out of a 2004 2500 Silverado with factory lights. The dealership parts people told me that the wiring I needed would be already there, I would just have to buy a switch and have the truck programmed. Where do I find the wiring? Is it tucked up somewhere special I have looked and can't find it.

My 99' 1500 didn't come with lights and the wiring wasn't there. So, I just bought the kit and bypassed the Computer but used 98% of the Factory wiring. I'm pretty sure if your truck didn't come with them then the wiring will not be there.
If you already have the lights you don't even need the kit. All you need is some wire, a switch, a hot lead that goes on and off with the switch and a little know how. The rest is straight forward.

For a pure factory install......the only wiring you will have is from the dash (the plug for the factory foglight switch) to the fuse box under the hood....you still need the harness from the fusebox to the lights themselves, and the relay. I just installed the kit in my 04 and the lights worked without the need for any reprogramming (don't ask me why....<shrug>)

ok, thanks guys, install done, just had to buy the brace, and dash switch, all the wiring was already
builtin had dealer show me the wiring and had them do the cut in the lower buper,pretty much a no brainer i guess it it was i couldn't have done it.

there is not reprogramming needed due to the fact that the bcm (body control module) is the same for all the silverado based gm vehicles it would cost to much money to make different parts

Quick question:

I've been wanting to retro-fit the fog lights in, using the GM stuff. How much did the switch / brace / etc cost?

Does anyone have a downloadable manual for the wiring of the foglights?

My Kit cost $145 Canadian. The installation manual was crappy photo copies of there shop manuals. I ended up using my own switch and most of the factory wiring through a relay and they work whenever I want.
It's pretty straight forward to install them.
1)Cut the holes in the lower valance where the lights are to go.
2)They say to remove the valance and mount the lights to the bumper then slide the valance back on again but, I was able to mount the lights without doing so.
3) Find a point on the chassis to mount the ground cable for the lights usually near a horn mount or something like that underneath.
4) Run the wiring harness up to the Electrical Center on the Driverside of the Engine Compartment.
(((Now for complete factory wiring you have to remove the electrical center and put the end of the wire into an outlet in there somewhere. I can't remember the exact location.)))
(I didn't do this as I bypassed this).
5) Remove the old Cargo Light S/W and install the new Cargo/ Fog Light S/W.
6) That's essentially it... if you wire it using all of the factory wiring.

i think it was about 68.00 for switch,brackets, the wiring is allready there
from the factory even though the truck was not equipped with fog lights

Yes the BCM (body control module) is the same on all. But some pickups when you install the fog lights they work ok. But on others you need to go to your dealer and have them activated by using the OBDII scanner. I installed the fog lights and they would not work. Until they were activated in the BCM.

Just out of curiousity, how much does the dealer usually pop you for the reprogramming? ;{
