1997 C1500 Fuel Pressure Connection
I want to check fuel pressure for my 97 C1500 305 5.0L. Can someone tell me where the pressure test connection is that the Haynes repair manual talks about? Can't seem to find anything that tells me.
Thanks |

You should have two stainless steel (or maybe aluminum) tubes coming from drivers side of engine , there is a bracket where they go down to under side of truck at the engine (close to firewall) the out board tube has a port .Looks like a tire air valve, and has a black cap on it. It is on the supply line tube (right next to driver's side pcv) atfter the distributor before the fuel meter body.

No problem, that's what I like about these forums, help fellow Chevy truck owners, without Mr. Goodwrench tapping our bank accounts.

Skipr,
Do you know if the fuel pressure regulator has a vacuum hose attached to it on a 98 5.7L? If so, where does it attach to opposite the regulator? Sorry to be redundant, but I'm in a jam and I'm trying to catch someone who might be logged on or checking the forum tonight. |

The FPR on these SFI systems are under the upper intake manifold . It is mounted on the passager side of fuel metering body (where the fuel pipes go into the manifold). It is acually monuted within the engine vacumm, therefore no vacumm hose is neccesary. Oh and it is not all that easy to get at, you have to remove alot bolts to get to it.

Skipr,
Thanks for the reply. I've taken off the upper manifold for the third time in 3 nights having swapped the fpr from the new one to the old one and probably back again (haven't finished yet). The reason I asked is because when I put the manifold all back together, I started to get a very wierd reaction: my engine started to run very rich (very noticable white cloud with raw, gassy smell to exhaust and eventual very loud backfire). I took the manifold off again and replaced the new fpr with the old fpr, checked for leaks; got none, then put the manifold back on and got the same situation. I talked with some guys at the local Autozone and they think the reaction is symptimatic of a vacuum leak. I thought that the fpr was spewing gas into the inlets and the chilton's manual said that there is a vacuum hose, which is obviously not the case. Anyways, do you have any ideas as to why I'm suddenly running so rich and backfiring? I'm confident that I replaced everything correctly. Thanks. |
