Question While driving Blinking Lights and door locks opening and closing

While driving my 1999 Grand Caravan, the interior lights will start blinking, dinging noise and the door locks will start opening and closing like the vehicle is posessed!! It seems like a door is ajar, possible door switch? not sure, need help

Re: While driving Blinking Lights and door locks opening and closing

The door switch is not being depressed far enough even when the door is fully closed. This is a common, but irritating problem with these mini-vans.
The solution is to get a square piece of 3M sponge backing tape and place it on the door where it strikes the switch. The extra thickness pushes the switch in a tad more.

My 1999 Voyager does exactly the same thing, and it is driving me nuts! A $70.00 dealer diagnostic and replacement of the rear latch assembly for another $200 didn't do a thing for it.

Re: While driving Blinking Lights and door locks opening and closing

I posted this earlier this year - this forum is so active the answers to most problems are probably already in here somewhere. I have a 99 Grand Voyager and a 94 Caravan and the solution for me was the same for both and costs virtually nothing. Anyway, here's what I said before:
I have a 94 Caravan that does the same thing. The rear sliding door electrical contacts get dirty and going over even a small bump will cause the van to be "possessed" - flash the interior lights and trigger the automatic 15mph door lock (if you're going over 15mph). It is caused by an intermittent loss of contact between the van and door electrics. All 3 symptoms only happen when the van is moving but you can test it when stopped by jiggling the door to see if the interior lights and the "door ajar" light go on (and off). If it is dirty contacts, the fix is easy - open the sliding door and you'll see 2 metal pads on the door jamb and 2 plastic, spring loaded pins with metal tips on the door. There may be more if your van has more power goodies than mine. These make contact when the door is closed, provide power to the door lock mechanism and input to the door sensor for the dash light and interior lights. With a little WD40 (or some other cleaner that is good for electrical stuff) on a cloth give the contact pads and the metal tips on the pins a good wipe. If it is dirty contacts, that should fix it.
