New Tools?

Got some some new tools? Lets here about them!

I got a new riviter today craftsman model 974749. I'v had one of there other riviters for a long time, use it alot at the shop to attach side skirts to the rocker pannel before molding them in, but sometimes the angles are kinda awkard so today I happen to walk down the isle and this one caught my eye, it has a rotating head so you can rivit at any angle. Has four differnt heads for the sizes, cushion grip. Been playing with it every since I got it. It works really good, the curved handles give alot of leverage without much strain on your hands. I would definatly recomend it to anyone. Of course I would recomend just about any craftsman tool to anyone, thats the only brand I buy except for some specialty tools that they do not make.

Re: New Tools?

I recently had to buy the craftsman vavle spring compressor and modify it to work on the honda engines, once modified it worked, but I think the coolest things I have are those rusted and stripped bolt extractors from craftsman, those things are awsome!

heh and I need to return my 17 mm 1/2 socket, broke that pappie on my crank bolt...

Re: New Tools?

lol, you should get it any day now, I mailed it yesterday.

I got to take some stuff back to sears, there new folding box cutter (the one I got anyway) was made out of some really bittle metal and the clip broke off and the thumb studs broke, hope I just got a bad one or something. But they will replace it so no worries on my part. Really like it though.

Re: New Tools?

SilentChamber - Would one of those riveters work to connect plexiglass to metal? What about fiberglass to metal? I want to redo my sunroof (cracked all to hell) before the winter, but I'm on a really tight budget (medical bills out the ass). I may customize something and rivet it in place but I'm not too sure. I know they make a fiberglass insert sunroof panel ("for race use only") but that's over 100 bux. I know your a body guy so any suggestions would be really great. Thanks.

Re: New Tools?

Yeah, I rivited the lexan windows in my gremlin, and I use rivits to attach side skirts all the time, so they work good for plexi and fiberglass.

Re: New Tools?

Thanks. I'll do that. I'm thinking about cutting the plexiglass to fit the sunroof hole (as done in the past) and using the weather stripping but riviting a sort of ring around the whole sunroof panel so that I can rivit it to the actual roof exterior. That way it will have a natural shape and won't crack.
