Dimmer Switch Relay?

Where's the dimmer switch relay located? Above the gas peddle?

Re: Dimmer Switch Relay?

O.K. I learned something today. It's the dimmer switch that dims the lights on the dash, and not the dimmer switch that controls high and low beam.

I just bought the car, and the guy told me the dimmer relay switch needs to be changed, which he had already bought. Well it's not that thank God. It's meshed up there on the steering columb.

What I'll do is check to see if the light bulbs are burned out. I don't know if there is a relay for these or not. The fuse is good. The dash just will not light up. All other light work.

The vehicle is a 1994 Lumina APV

Thanks
Chuck

Re: Dimmer Switch Relay?

Are the dash lights tied in somehow to the dimmer switch relay?

When I push the headlight switch on, the radio, and heater lights go out. Shouldn't this be in reverse? The dash lights refuse to come on. Is there something better than the Hayes Manual?

I always found a chiltons manual to be more helpful in electrical issues. also test all relays inside and under hood. you would be surprised how one thing can affect something not even related. i learned that the hard way on a couple cars

Ditto on the Chiltons manual. The dimmer switch can cause all kinds of electrical problems when it goes bad. Replace the switch and dimmer and you may find that the electrical problems disappear. I had a short that was knocking out the driving and running lights. I found a good mechanical and he replaced the switch and no problems since.
