2001 Taurus won't start...

I have a 2001 Taurus and it won't start it doesn't even click when you turn the key. Does anyone have any ideas on how to even start troubleshooting???? We did try a new battery that wasn't the problem. Thanks in advance for any help!

When I turn the key it stays on steady. But when I turn the key back off it flashes slowly (like normal, I'm assuming)

We also tried tapping the starter while turning the key and disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes. Have you ever heard of a key losing its programming???? Could this be a possibility.
