I took my metro into Canadian Tire and they said my front calipers are siezed. Can I un-seize them, or should I just replace them? FYI, the rotors are in need of replacement as they are too worn to be turned and everything is prety rusted down there.
Thanks Danny |

I do not think they can be unsiezed-- if they are siezed now why would you even want to try and unsieze them??Has the car been sitting?? if so what kind of contaminaits are in the caliper piston?? I grabbed calipers for mine and they were like 23.00 a peice @ auto zone the rotors are not that expensive either-- I would just change everything-- It is what stops your car, so I wouldnt skimp.

Re: Siezed Calipers - Can they be unseized?
cheap to replace...but can be unsiezed probably. You could unbolt calipers 1 at a time and try to apply brakes and see if they move....or squeeze them back with a c-clamp. That may break them free. if you can get the piston out of the caliper, you could clean them up and turn the o-ring inside out, put it back together and you have a rebuilt caliper.

Re: Siezed Calipers - Can they be unseized?
Script:
With some patience, you can fully unseize the calipers. Even do, you should seroius consider to replace them since all the rust near by could ¡ndirectly affect some other pieces of your brake system. I guess you would not like to miss a red light because your brakes do not respond. MC
