Taking out stock head unit in 99
I have a 99 accord, and i was just wondering if anyone could help me out with instructions to take out my stock head unit, and if any tools are required for it. I'm buying a new head unit soon, but i want the same brand that Honda uses, so if i can just get the stock one out i can figure it out. Thanks

Re: Taking out stock head unit in 99
I don't have instructions for the '99, but I'm curious - why do you want to keep the same "brand" as the original? Perhaps related to your original thread (regarding keeping the CD changer)?
That would appear to make sense, but the head unit likely says "Honda" on it and nothing else, so don't hold your breath about buying a replacement after-market unit that the same CD changer will plug in to. (Unless, of course you want to pay a Gazillion dollars for a genuine new Honda unit <grin>) |

Yeah, it has to do with that. But I did go to my Honda dealership and I asked him, and he said that they used Panasonic head units in the car. I just want to pull it out and double check. But if it is panasonic... or pioneer, what someone else told me, i can just get that same brand head unit and have the 6 cd changer work, otherwise i'll just do some custom wiring.

take a small screwdriver and pop the clock out of the center console, there is one screw behind it..... under the lip on the bottom of the radio bezel there are two more small screws remove them and carefully pry out on the bezel....... then there are just four 8 mm bolts holding the stock radio in..... its a pioneer, but im pretty sure your stock cd changer has a different plug on it and wont plug into a aftermarket deck..... hope this helps ya out

Re: Taking out stock head unit in 99
From your other thread, what you were told was that it (perhaps) used Pioneer SPEAKERS.
In any event, just because Honda might buy them from Panasonic it is no guarantee that your changer will be plug-compatible with an after-market Panasonic head unit. It might, but it might not. If they are not compatible, and if the CD changer has a multi-pin connector (rather than connecting through the antenna -- which I doubt) then you'll have more than a wiring job on your hands. You'd probably be better off replacing the CD changer too. (Maybe you could sell the old one here!) |
