Question dead car...

Hey everyone I'm very unknowledge about about this sort of stuff...

My '96 sable has a tape stuck in the tape deck, I believe because of this it is killing my battery (the tape player runs -doesn't play the tape but you can hear it running ALL THE TIME when the car is off), because my car is ALWAYS dead when I got to use it. I'm a poor college student and can't really afford to pay too much to have it fixed, so I was thinking maybe there was a way to just disconect the tape deck...if there is can someone tell me how, if there isn't can someone please just tell me how to disconect the whole thing...and if I'm way off base and this isn't the reason for the dead battery, can you give me an idea of what it is thats causing it?

I'm going home this weekend for the holiday and its a six hour drive so needless to say I will have to turn it off to stop to eat and such...so its not like I can just jump it and take off unless I want to spend the rest of my life on the highway...so if you can help me, please do!!!

Thanks so much,
Ashley

Re: dead car...

well, the easiest way to do it is to pull the fuse for the radio, unfortunately, you also have no speedometer when you do this.

The other way is to take out the stereo and unplug it, to get it out you need 2 large bent paperclips to stick in the 4 holes, then pull the unit out and disconnect the large wiring harness on the back.
