300ZX Z32 (NA) vs. 3000GT (SL)

Hey!

Went to the INFAMOUS street races (Ontario, Ca.) this past Friday night/Early Saturday morning and had a blast! It has been a few years since I have been... (last-time me and my friends were shot at... glad to see it has calmed down some!) and it looks like it's still going strong! I did not really want to run this night 'cus I had my friend and brother riding along. I just pulled up and parked and saw a few runs. Honrable mentions: WRX kills Mustang GT, Mean sounding COBRA (???) slaughters 1970-ish Corvette (both these guys were built... not sure what they were running!), S14 pulls on MX6.... I was enjoying the races and chatted with a guy who was driving his chick's G35 (brand spanking new and stock! He didn't want to run sadly but understandably).

Like I said... I had no intention on running this night but as we were running from the cops to the next location someone pulled up right on my ass, then swerved to the right-lane next to me. A purple 3000GT (SL) pulls up by me. The driver keeps looking over and starts talking to his buddy and keeps on smiling. There is no-one in front of us. He wants to run. I got two passengers. He's got an 3000GT SL. I got a Z32 NA AT 2+2. Let's roll! I feather the throttle and rush foward then slow down... just to show him my intentions. He responds with the same action. We wait... then we gun it! At first he pulls ahead of me but I'm all-over him! He has some mods... I can hear his exhaust and I'm sure he has intake (very throaty). About a 1/4 mile or more down the road I still have nearly a full car length on him. My passengers are loving it! Then we catch up with the rest of the pack and we gotta slow-down... he turns off onto a street so I can't give him props. Wish we were able to go at again. I'm sure I would have totally massacarred him if not for at least one of my passengers!

Re: 300ZX Z32 (NA) vs. 3000GT (SL)

you think you would have massacred him because of one passenger?

nothing against you 1viadrft but, i swear some people are so obsessed with weight that they might as well go to jenny craig or something.

one thing i will never do is complain about a passenger as the reason for a loss. that's just stupid to me

again no offense 1viadrft
and good kill, it would have been cool to pull over and talk after that one

i also dont think you wouldve massacred him even without the passenger. these two cars are pretty even.

so you honestly think losing 150lbs in car doesnt' do anything? he wouldn't have massacred him like he said he would, but it would definitly put him one more car ahead. whenever i floor my car to show someone how it pulls, it never pulls the same as it does when i'm alone. so thats why i'd rather let other people ( who i trust in skill ) to drive my car rather then me taking them for a spin.

Re: 300ZX Z32 (NA) vs. 3000GT (SL)

as far as statistics are concerned
222hp engine vs 222hp engine
rwd vs fwd
dont know about weight of the 2 in comparison but its very well possible his car was heavier than yours anyway (that is, if we are going to obsess about weight factors)
its possible his exhaust was draining out more power than it was giving.
Also at what point did you take the lead? if he pulled ahead of you but you were all over him i would have thought that meant keeping up with him closely.

I love both of these cars so i can't be all too biased. All facts aside, it was most likely a drivers race and you came out on top, good kill.

He actually gunned it before I realized it... and went right after him. As soon as I was on the throttle I was ahead of him. I believe my car is a little heavier (I have a 2+2 and I had two passengers) and you are right on the dot with the HP. I believe I have a little more torque, however (as do all NISSAN's) and that's probably what got me past him. As far as mods I only have a BLITZ SUS intake and 'mufflers'. It was probably pretty even of a race... the road was not exactly straight either. I would love to run this guy again if chance allows! No passengers this time!

I love 3000GT's myself and have much respect for them... maybe I can be cool like YoungVR4 and own a VR4 someday! Thanks for the props guys!

Re: 300ZX Z32 (NA) vs. 3000GT (SL)

LoL

Thanks youngVr4! Hey when did you become a MOD?

BTW:

3000gt SL
3373lb (suppossed)
222hp @ 6000rpm
201lb ft @ 4500rpm (???Can anyone confirm this???)

300ZX NA 2+2
4190lb (gross... anyone know the exact weight?)
222hp @ 6000rpm
198lb ft @ 4800rpm

I'm not quite sure on some of these numbers... theoretically he should have been able to beat me...

The 300 is over 4100 pounds?!? I don't buy that for a minute. http://auto.consumerguide.com/auto/u...specifications comes back with around 3400 pounds so it sounds like same ballpark as the SL.

Re: 300ZX Z32 (NA) vs. 3000GT (SL)

Well that's gross-weight... plus I have a 2+2! They weigh more than the Coupe... like I said... I'm not sure on some of those #'s...
