92 RS purchase?

ok ive been lookin around the used car sites and i came a cross an affordable 92 RS and was wondering what there is to know and what i should know about them. are there alot of engine probs? what kind? is it worth buying if it has 100,000 miles on it? the one i came across says it is a V8 auto, not happy about the auto ut i figure, "V8, who the hell cares if its auto!" lol. i need to know fast before the guy sells it to someone else. supposed excellent interior and exterior and has all papers and records for it. i need to know if its a reliable car for a senior in high school who will soon be going to college and needs a car to him there (preferablly kinda fast haha).
thanks damian

Re: 92 RS purchase?

Its not a bad car as far as reliability goes. It would have a 305 TBI engine though which is the weakest V8 you could get in them. The better ones are TPI but they only came in the Z28s. The gas mileage wont be horrible but it is a V8 so its not going to be that spectacular.

Check into insurance before you think about this car because it might be a little high. If this one sells theres a ton of other ones around so dont panic.

Re: 92 RS purchase?

yeah, third gens are selling for pretty low prices nowadays, check ebay for compareable models, but NEVER buy a car off of ebay.

as far as a 92RS, well, ive got an 89RS, that wont die. and wont let me get rid of her lol (long story) but the car has only once left me high and dry, and its cuz i took her off road at 40-50mph and farked up the front suspention. I owned that car for a good two years driving every day, and multiple trips from DC to norfolk, and back, and from DC to richmond and back, and the car never gave me a hiccup. the TBI engine leaves a bit to be desired in the way of fuel economy, but i also tend to be a leadfoot. As far as performance, the 700R4 if properly built will handle 600hp, and will be faster than the T5 anyday of the week. its just not as much fun on windy roads. the 305 feels like it has alot more power than it does, which is a good thing. and parts for the cars are cheap and readily available. i personally love the cars, so much i bought a second 1989 IROC to add to my selection. which i drove home to virginia, from arkansas, with no cell phone, thats how confident i was that i would be ok. both my camaros have over 150,000 miles on them, and dont act like they have more than 20,000 on them. if the car was well taken care of, you should be fine. but dober89 brings up a very important point when it comes to money, insurance on these things is a bitch.

Re: 92 RS purchase?

Not to start anything...but I just noticed you say your car's estimated hp is 365. Sorry I just dont see 365hp rw or flywheel with the mods you have listed. Ignition, single in dual out flow, and a TBI spacer will not give you way over a 100hp boost. I dont car how much you bore it.
Now, I wouldnt have said anything but... 365 rwhp @ 3000lbs should put you running about 12 seconds flat. Now say thats 365 fly wheel hp. Ok so you have say 300rwhp? Cool you should be running 12.80's-13flat so thats a little better...
But, 13.30's? Your a little off, unless of course you are going to Colarado to race. Last but not least you claim 135mph in the quarter? Where did you get the 600rwhp and sub 10's it would take for those speeds?

Sorry if you take this the wrong way. I dont mean to flame you or anyone else...Just thought you may want to know your info is, well, .... way off.
