Gas tank full of air?

On a few occasions I have stopped to fill up the 98 and for some reason the tank refused to take on fuel. Like it was full of air or something. I make it a point to keep it full but sometimes I noticed it simply refuses to take on the gas. It hasn't happened often but when it does the fuel seems to want overspill and the tank is only half full. Anyone else have this problem or is it the Quik Trip 93 that it hates?

This must be a humdinger, usually I get a response it no time. Must be the gas pump cover (thingy doodle that covers the nossel.) Any comments would be appreciated.

Re: Gas tank full of air?

Have you had any body damage to that area of the car? Maybe the pipe from the fuel filler cap to the fuel tank is smaller than it should be. Or maybe you're trying to pump the gas too fast. Does it still happen if you ease up on the flow?

Thanks, no damage. On a few occasions it was a real pain. Some vapor lock, locked out any delivery. Even when pumping slow, you would think the air would at least excape from the tank. I've tried everything but lately haven't had the problem. One thing I do remember, the fuel gauge registered the red mark, car was running.

Re: Gas tank full of air?

yep I've had it too, the best thing to do is if it does it again, take the pump out then put it back in several times until it pumps normal, but dont know whta to say after that, go to some other forums and ask what to do about vapor lock.
