Cavalier Problems 1988/1997

Cavalier problems 1988/1997 1988- installing a cd deck with a dash kit pyramid in 444 kit can not get it to mount properly any one know about them and any insite on them would help thanks alot 1997 cavalier / rear shock clicking and front grinding when i turn right or back up and crank wheel also anyone know an easy way to replace oil seal on passenger side / any known problems or suggestions would be great thanks also looking for a body kit used if possible thanks alot

As for your 88... make sure all the wires are pushed far enough back...you might have to drill new hole to screw it into place... as for your 97...

There has been numerous recalls for your year and of which 2 concern the steering and rear suspension... here is some info i have gotten for you..

Make : CHEVROLET Model : CAVALIER Year : 1997
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 02V286000 Recall Date : NOV 01, 2002
Component: STEERING:RACK AND PINION
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 1159156
Summary: CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES AND MINI VANS HAVE LOWER PINION BEARINGS IN THE POWER RACK AND PINION ASSEMBLY IN WHICH THE RETAINER TABS WERE NOT CRIMPED PROPERLY. THESE AND SOME OTHER RETAINERS USED IN VEHICLES ASSEMBLED BETWEEN JANUARY 1, 1996 AND OCTOBER 31, 1997, COULD FAIL AND PERMIT THE BALL BEARINGS TO ESCAPE.
Consequence: IF THIS OCCURS, THE PINION SHAFT CAN BE FORCED UPWARD DURING LEFT TURNS AND BACK DOWN AS THE STEERING WHEEL IS MOVED BACK AND TO THE RIGHT. IF THE PINION SHAFT MOVES FURTHER, THE DRIVER WILL NEED TO EXERT MORE EFFORT TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL, SIMILAR TO A VEHICLE WITHOUT POWER ASSISTED STEERING. IF THE PINION SHAFT MOVES EVEN FURTHER, THE DRIVER WILL REQUIRE MUCH HIGHER EFFORT TO TURN LEFT AND MAY NOT BE ABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL AS MUCH AS INTENDED. WITH THE MAXIMUM PINION SHAFT MOVEMENT, WHICH REQUIRES INTERNAL GEAR COMPONENT DAMAGE, THE DRIVER CAN ENCOUNTER HIGH RESISTANCE TO TURNING LEFT, FOLLOWED BY UNINTENDED POWER ASSIST TO THE RIGHT. IN ANY OF THESE CONDITIONS, A CRASH COULD OCCUR.

Component: SUSPENSION:REAR
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 27083
Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES. ONE OF THE REAR SUSPENSION TRAILING ARM BOLTS CAN FATIGUE AND BREAK.
Consequence: IF THIS WERE TO OCCUR WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL CAN OCCUR, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE REAR SUSPENSION TRAILING ARM FASTENERS.

Go to a GM dealership and find out if these have been taken care of... If they haven't its a free fix for both of the problems.

Do these things for the 1997 cavalier pertain to the cavalier 4 door cars ?? that is what i am talking about also on the 1988 cavalier car z24
when you go from a complete stop it makes a loud thump and it will not idle for more then 5-10 mins by it self any suggestions?
