Engine Problems. '93 4.0 6-cyl. Sarah

About a week ago, heavy rain caused flooding in my neighborhood, up to 3 feet in areas. Being the owner of a '93 4.0 6-cylinder Sarah, i couldnt resist driving through them. The next day is when problems came up. The Check Engine light will not turn off, When it idles it dies most of the time, chokes for gas for a sec then catches up when I give it gas. I know the Cat. Converter is bad, and has been for awhile. But I figure that it shouldn't be the problem since it all happened overnight. Can anyone help me?

First, I would replace what you know to be bad. Randon Technologies makes a nice High-flow CAT that won't brake the bank. Then start looking at your ignition system (cap, plug wires, etc.) I installed a High CAT on a CJ-7, worked great.

If you think your cat. is bad then that could be start of problem, if it got full with water then it could be restricting your exhaust flow and that can cause engine problems. Next look at your o2 sensor which should be replaced yearly, this is on the exhaust pipe right below manifold, it measures your o2 reading coming out of engine if this got burnt out it will give engine false info. which cause poor performance, or idle sensor which is on top of engine, will cause idle problems if burnt out.

Thanks

Thank you guys for the help. The nice people at Auto-Zone checked my cars computer today and it turned out to be the Throttle Position Sensor. That was a $40 quick five minute fix that I installed and anyone can do. It turns out this car was not taken care of by the previous owners. I am off to check out Randon Technologies and to check on plugs and wires. Thanks.

Also, does anyone know where I can get the new style Rubicon style mirrors? And a new style third brake light that is mounted over the spare tire? I checked www.jeepline.com, but they did not have them. Also where would I get a decent starter? Thanks for the help.
