Re: Need Quick Evo Viii Help

sorry... didn't mean to laugh or whatever, just 19.5 is a lot of boost to be running while you're finding out what to turn it up to... i'd dial it down a bit till somone can get you some proper advice, just in case. I suspect the boost is round 13-15 standard.

if you had a Subaru it might be dead by now.

Re: Need Quick Evo Viii Help

standard boost for a stock turbo engine.. any engine... without adding any injectors or fuel.. nor lowering the compression rate is at about 0.5 - 1.2 bar... unless you do something to the fuel system and compression rate... stick to that range.

Re: Need Quick Evo Viii Help

kdavis,

The EVO's stock boost pressure is significantly higher then most vehicles.

IMHO, 19.5 psi is a good starting point for the EVO8. Stock boost is 19.5 at 3500, tapering starting at 5K to 14-15 psi at red line.

You should be able to up it to 20-20.5 without significant upgrades. After that, I would start with fuel pump, clutch, turbo back exhaust and ECU.

Re: Need Quick Evo Viii Help

ummm wait, it's big but it spools up so early its making 19.5 at 3500rpm? sounds more like a little turbo to me, does anyone know what it actually uses?

Re: Need Quick Evo Viii Help

Here's a good starting point for more general info regarding a stock EVO8 from Car & Driver
http://www.caranddriver.com/article....rticle_id=4186

Here's a bit of info regarding the various turbos used in EVO's over the years.

Evolution 1
Turbo = TDO5H–16G-7
Nozzle Area (cm2) = 7
Exhaust turbine = Inconel (nickel alloy)
Compressor = Aluminum, 60mm wide

Evolution 2
Turbo = TDO5H–16G-7
Nozzle Area (cm2) = 7
Turbine = Inconel (nickel alloy)
Compressor = Aluminum, 60mm wide

Evolution 3
Turbo = TD05H–16G6-7
Nozzle Area (cm2) = 7
Turbine = Inconel (nickel alloy)
Compressor = Aluminum, 68mm wide

Evolution 4
Turbo = TD05HR-16G6-9T
Nozzle Area (cm2) = 9
Turbine = Inconel (nickel alloy)
Compressor = Aluminum, 68mm wide

Evolution 5
Turbo = TD05HR-16G6-10.5T (GSR)
TD05HRA-16G6-10.5T (RS)
Nozzle Area (cm2) = 10.5
Turbine = Inconel (nickel alloy), Titanium alloy (RS)
Compressor = Aluminum, 68mm wide

Evolution 6
Turbo = TD05HR-16G6-10.5T (GSR)
TD05HRA-16G6-10.5T (RS/rs2)
Nozzle Area (cm2) = 10.5
Turbine = GSR - Inconel (nickel alloy), Titanium alloy (RS/RS2)
Compressor = Aluminum, 68mm wide

Evolution 6 : Tommi Makinen Edition
Turbo = TD05RA-15GK2-10.5T (GSR)
TD05HRA-16G6-10.5T (RS/rs2)
Nozzle Area (cm2) = 10.5
Turbine = Titanium alloy for both RS/RS2/GSR!
Compressor = Aluminum, 65mm (gsr) - 68mm(rs) wide

Evolution 7
Turbo = TD05HR-16G6-9.8T (GSR)
TD05HRA-16G6-9.8T (RS/RS2)
Nozzle Area (cm2) = 9.8
Turbine = GSR - Inconel (nickel alloy), RS/Rs2=Titanium alloy
Compressor = Aluminum, 68mm wide

Evolution 7 GTA
Turbo = TD05-15GK2-9.0T
Nozzle Area (cm2) = 9.0
Turbine = Inconel (nickel alloy)
Compressor = Aluminum, 65mm wide

Evolution 8
Turbo = TD05HR-16G6-9.8T (GSR / USDM E8)
TD05HRA-16G6-9.8T (RS/RS2)
Nozzle Area (cm2) = 9.8
Turbine = USDM EVO 8 & JDM GSR =Inconel (nickel alloy),
RS/Rs2=Titanium alloy.
Compressor = Aluminum, 68mm wide

Evolution MR aka "8.5"
GSR = TD05HR-16G6-10.5T or TD05HRA-16G6-10.5T (Ti Alloy option)
RS = 6MT:TD05HRA-16G6-10.5T or 5MT:TD05HRA-16G6-9.8T
Nozzle Area (cm2) = 10.5 or 9.8(RS-5speed)
Compressor = Aluminum, 68mm wide

All Evo 4-8 Turbos are twin scroll designs meaning that the engines exhaust is divided into two channels. As the engine exhausts in pulses, it’s supposed to result in quicker spooling. From the Evo 4 onwards, the Turbo spins in the opposite direction, i.e. counter-clockwise (hence the R in the turbo name). The titanium-Alumnide alloy used in the RS/RS2 and some GSRS (factory option) has less inertia and thus spins up a little sooner and quicker. These titanium turbos can be identified by the A in their name.

IMHO, Inconel turbine compressors are tougher then their Titanium-Alumnide counter parts.
