'95 S-10 Dash Removal
I own a 1995 Chevrolet S-10, and need to remove the dash to fix several problems. I was recently able to remove the plate that covers the radio/climate control panel as well as the glove compartment cover. But I stopped there after I noticed that there is an adhesive stripping that connects the main dash plate to the dash body.
My questions are: 1) Will removing the dash, and subseqently tearing up the adhesive stripping, cause any problems I should know about (i.e., rattling after it's reinstalled, poor fitting reinstall, damage to dashboard, etc.)? 2) Will I have to replace the stripping? 3) How do you unplug all the wire harnesses without breaking them? Is a special tool required for that? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Re: '95 S-10 Dash Removal
Buy a Chilton's repair manual.
Dont just wing it through things like this. Buy a proper repair manual. |

Re: '95 S-10 Dash Removal
I'm not willing to spend any money on this project. I just need someone with a bit of experience to tell me how to remove a dashboard from a 1995 Chevy S-10 pickup.

Re: '95 S-10 Dash Removal
It is $10 bucks bro, quit being so cheap.
We can't guide you through it step by step. For 10 bucks it shows you plus will help you with projects and repairs down the road. |

I beg your pardon? Don't call me "cheap." I'm a very frugal person who needs a few simple questions answered. If you can't do that, then stop posting on this thread. A reply of "go buy this and that" does not help me. I don't need a step-by-step guide; I just need those three questions from the first post answered, and I know there are a few experienced people here who can help. Thank you. |

Re: '95 S-10 Dash Removal
You shouldnt have to tear any adhesive apart.Look somewhere esle for either 7mm head screws or 10mm head bolts.Usually when something is glued together it is one piece,so look at a bigger picture.Unpluging the wireharness clips is not hard either. You will need a small screwdriver or pic.Look at the clips close and you will see how they are held together.Pry up on the tab and pull clip apart, sometimes you will have to push in and pull apart.Hope this helps.

I lifted the dash in my 94 S10 2 years ago to replace the heater core. You can't remove the dash without removing the steering wheel so I just propped it up with 1X2s while I worked on it. It's not a fun job but I don't remember breaking any adhesive, only several pieces of foam weatherstripping the fell apart due to dry rot. Make sure you find all the main bolts holding the dash frame to the cab walls. Also if you have an auto like mine there is a thin cable that connects the column shift lever to the transmissin position indicator in the dash. Be careful, you have to discnnect this cable before removing/lifting the dash or it could break. You'll need to adjust it again for proper indicating before bolting down the dash again.
good luck |
