Re: rustoleum lacquer

Some question here but 7 years later, as I saw it today at a paint shop:P
Anyone tried this one? How would it go over enamel, acrylic and/or decals?

Re: rustoleum lacquer

I like these paints, especially the clear, which can be seen on this model:

I wouldn't spray them over enamels because they seem fairly hot. You'd have to test it out over decals; I shot the clear over Scale Motorsport carbon fiber decals with great results, but too much of it will eat some decals. The clear is very forgiving (self-leveling and it dries thin) and polishes out very nicely. I've not experimented enough with gloss black and gloss white, but I have them and only recently tried using them.

Re: rustoleum lacquer

i use the matte black for almost every park that calls for semi gloss black with great results, just be aware it takes alot longer to dry than say tamiya paints

Chilly: what would you use the clear over? Or what wouldn´t you, beside enamels?

I've used it over automotive lacquers from Plasti-kote and Dupli-Color. I think I've also safely used it on top of Tamiya's TS paints.
This is it over a Dupli-Color paint:

And this is on top of Tamiya TS:

On that Porsche I shot the clear a little too heavily and too quickly and it threatened to affect the paint and it did damage some of the decals. However, if I had it to do over, I think shooting it in lighter coats over a longer period (every fifteen minutes instead of every five) would give better results.

Re: rustoleum lacquer

Nice finishes on both models!
Besides the problem with decals, it seems that it doesn´t affect TS paints. As TS is enamel (right?) it shouldn´t be a problem to apply it over airbrushed enamels, but wrong to apply over acrylics. Am I right?
I realized that it´s the same can I bought a couple of years before with the name in spanish... I´m gonna try it on a small piece, but I´d also like your opinion/experience.

Tamiya TS paints are NOT enamel. I would not recommend use of this lacquer over any enamel paint.
