Drifting ESi

I've always been a big fan of drifting, but never really understood how it works. At times when coming into work I would fly thru the parking lot and try to slide into my spot, however, it never worked too well. Use the handbrake, and its perfect, but bad on tires.

So my question is, how do cars become drifters? What does it take to make it lose control and slide? Slick tires is a must, I know that... but what else? Is it possible to do to an ESi?

rear wheel drive. i cant imagine it would be easy to do in a FWD car

fwd drifting is harder then rwd but it is possible. you need to be turning hard enough that you can just jerk the ebrake for a second to break loss the back and keep it sliding without holding the brake.
i saw a good site on it awhile back but i forget what it is maybe someone here knows it explained all kinds of techniques for fwd and rwd drifting.

things that would make your esi drift easier would be to lower the front tire pressures a pound or two and raise the back to the max rating on the tire. stiffer rear suspension will help too

Drifting = car goes sideways.

The only way you are going to get a non turbo FWD car sideways is to pull the ebrake or maybe jerk the car around until it loses control. There are drift cars out there, and a talon ESI is not one of them. RWD.

drifting = back end sliding out while tyou continue to move forward.
it is possible in a fwd.
i think its dumb since i prefer to stay stuck to the road instead of sliding but to each his own.

yeah, drifting my 95 gs is pretty hard without wasting the tires..... thats why i looooove the winter up here - i just go out for hours and e-brake drift on the snowpacked back country roads until im low on gas god i love driving

I just like it, so I wanted to know what it would take. Makes sense thats its easier for RWD. More power than car can hold. Just pushes it all over.

its not the extra power in a rear wheel drive car that lets it slide, its the fact that the rear tires can lose traction by spinning instead of stopping(with e-brake) so even with a low-power rwd car you can shift the weight to the front and cut the wheel while hitting the gas to break the traction in the back resulting in a drift..... unfortunately i have to rely on my dad's supercharged miata to do that instead of my gs..... someday ill own a gsx or something with something other than fwd.

Wassup guys and gals, i've spent most of my time in the 240sx/Silvia forums but now i'm here because i might be getting an eclipse some time soon (like this week soon) so anyways i know my fair part about drifting. I know i'm going to catch alot of shit for this but FWDs dont really drift more like a powerslide. drifting is more like sliding before/during/after a turn. RWD is the most logical way to drift just you have to whip this ass out and keep it there while keeping the back wheels powering the slide, courtesy of a LSD. EclipseBabe has got the right idea about the horsepwoer issue, although alot of it would definitely help break the rear end out easier (try looking up the HKS Hiper Silvia, the red and yellow one, about 400hp on that bad boy) but its not really necessary, thats why 240sx are so well known for drifting, they dont put out huge numbers but its damn near enough to be one of the best drifting cars in the word. If any of you guys know about the eight-six truenos, theres another prime example. also some people do it in GT-S Skylines, theres a silver 4 door GT-S skyline kicking major ass in D1 events. 4wd cars do it often too, like the EVOs ofcourse, and how about the WRC cars? they drift all the time, but thats different story. i think maybe a gsx could maybe slide around some corners granted the driver knew what he was doing. well anyways, i've got some drift videos for yall to look at, i think only the 1st and 4th videos work, enjoy the beauty of drift

I guess that the people who likes to drift know about this cartoon, my uncle recomend it to me and is not that bad, pretty realistic, nice 3d images, and guys with HUGE EYES, oh yeah is japanese .
Those guys are really fans of drift.
oh but the way it's name is "Initial D". try it on kazaa, theres a lot of videos.

dude, david-b, u got a better chance of drifting in a GSX or an AWD DSM.
