Air coming through vents not sufficient to heat or cool 1992 Lumina

I have read that the reason I do not have enough air coming through the vents could be a clogged evaporator core. Where do I find the evaporator core and does anyone know if this is my problem?

We had another post not long ago on this, and richtazz nailed it. The evap core is probably slimed up. Look where your A/C lines go into the firewall from the engine compartment. You can figure out what you have to go through to access it. Some are relatively easy to get to through the interior. There is a spray made to clear this problem without disassembly, I think.

Thank-you. I will take a look. I just bought this vehicle and love it, but you know Canadian winters, I won't survive without heat.

Make sure any exterior air intake path is clear of leaves and crud too. (below windshield)

Thanks. I have cleared the screen and am attemting to remove all covers from under the dash. The last one is giving me a problem as it is bolted to the firewall. I will have to jack her up to reach that one. Hopefully I will see the problem once I remove the last piece.

I have the same problem but I'm having trouble locating the evap core? I tried to follow the AC lines but the gap between the engine/everything else and firewall is tiny. Also what does it look like? I have both the Haynes and chilton books on the car and neither says anything about it.

Re: Air coming through vents not sufficient to heat or cool 1992 Lumina

I have taken the console out and have all under the under dash pieces off except one which is still hooked on one side and the glove box has to come out as well. Unscrewed the convenience centre which it is called in the book. It's only held on by a couple little scews. I have located either the air conditioning rad or the heating rad, don't know which and am stumped. Have no idea what the core looks like either. Will keep informed as I get further along. This has taken hours to get this far.
