|
best stock DSM combo
Im putting together my 90 lazer RST. I wanna keep everything "stock peices" from some DSM or rather. What are the best things off of what year ?
Im using 90 block ( external oil cooled) 2g o2 housing 2g turbo manifold 1g BOV looking for a 92.5 - 94 head ( was told its the best head on DSMS) am i missing anything? any info is appreciated.. THANKS! |

The later 1g heads are no different than the earlier ones, except in the stud holes perhaps. The stud size dropped from 12mm for 6 bolts to 11mm for 7 bolts. Not sure if they dropped the hole size too, but it is smaller on the 2g heads and you have to have a machine shop take out the holes 1mm. The cams in the 90s are worse than the 91-94 MT though, and 2Gs are a tocuh smaller than those even. Auto cams were small as well, but might just be 90 cams used through 94, not sure.

i just bought a head off a 94 manual turbo for my 90 manual tsi. since the cams are different will i have a problem? any performance gain using a 91 or later head of a 90?

Might I ask why you want to keep stock parts? If I were you, I would run either the stock turbo or a 16g and use almost all the parts you have now. maybe a ported 2g manifold, o2 housing etc... but it would be cheaper to run a 16g on a stock setup than a 14b on a mix and match, and make less power.
