blitz kit question

My friend just sold me his blitz front bumper for my car .... but its not the right color which isn't a problem ... but is their a certain way or process you have to go through before you paint it besides sanding it and priming it .... like a certain type of sand paper , etc any tips would be appreciated ... never fulled with any type of kit before.
